Natalie Portman is gorgeous in this international Black Swan poster

Dec. 8, 2010by: George Merchan

This past weekend saw the limited release of BLACK SWAN with expansion coming over the next few weeks. And so far, reception has been great as critics and audiences alike appear to be doing pirouettes over Darren Aronofsky's intense psychological drama.

Now, a new international one sheet has hit the web. Courtesy of Glamour UK, the new poster features the lovely Natalie Portman looking a tad shattered yet downright heavenly. I mean, goddamn, honey.

Synopsis: Nina (Portman) is a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her obsessive former ballerina mother Erica (Hershey) who exerts a suffocating control over her. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side - a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.

Fantastic

Quite possibly the best movie poster I've seen all year. It's beautiful for obvious reasons, but also relevant to the film by hinting at its disturbing nature. Nicely done.

I would SO hang that on my wall. I mean, who wouldn't want to wake up to a face like that? :)

For once, the U.S. posters are better than the international ones. At least, this one - my favourite was the one with the feathers.
