Nathan Fillion wants you to cool it with the Uncharted movie talk

His legions of devoted fans (myself included) may be fiercely rallying for him to get the lead in the UNCHARTED movie now that David O. Russell and Mark Wahlberg have left the building, but Nathan Fillion is a bit worried that overzealousness could actually hurt his chances of landing the part.

Speaking to Screenrant at Comic-Con, he expressed his current thoughts on the film and his theoretical role in it.

“I am certainly still interested in playing Nathan Drake”, the Firefly star told Screenrant at Comic-Con. “I think every actor I know wants their action-adventure hero, their Indiana Jones. That would be a good one for me, I think. What I don’t want is people pressuring that poor man [director Neil Burger] and souring him on the actual idea. If we could somehow just… do you remember the movie Inception? I think that’s what we need to do. We need to let him land on the idea on his own.”

Fans were outraged with O. Russell didn’t even know who Fillion was when confronted by fans, but conversely it’s probably not the best idea to mob the new director Burger with death threats unless he casts him. If he’s Googled “Uncharted movie” he’s undoubtedly turned up a few dozen articles requesting Fillion, and so he’s likely at least being considered.

But that said, it would still be understandable if Fillion didn’t get the part. Why? Well outside of those of us that are fans of both Firefly/Castle and Uncharted, a lot of the public won’t make the connection between Fillion and Drake (if they haven’t played the game) or even know who he is (if they haven’t seen his shows). He may seem like a lock to most of us, but he’s untested for the general public, and there’s going to be a decent amount of money on the line, and therefore easy to see the studio pushing for someone more people know, like say, Burger’s friend Bradley Cooper.

Even if that is true, I’ll still be pulling for Fillion till the end.
