Need more proof Argo should be Best Picture at this year's Oscars? Check out this 28 minute featurette

Feb. 11, 2013by: Alex Maidy

Most in Hollywood left ARGO for dead when Ben Affleck was not nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards. It seemed to be a foregone conclusion that the critical and box office success would end at the Golden Globes. But, then recognition came from the Directors Guild, the Producers Guild, and now the BAFTA for Best Picture. Suddenly it appears incredibly foolish that the Academy overlooked Affleck.

ARGO is now the frontrunner for the Oscar and will benefit from hitting Blu-ray a week before the awards are broadcast. In time for the home video release, Warner Bros has revealed a thirty minute feature on the making of ARGO. Titled ARGO: Declassified, you can watch the entire video right now on YouTube.

Plot: A dramatization of the 1980 joint CIA-Canadian secret operation to extract six fugitive American diplomatic personnel out of revolutionary Iran.

ARGO is not only the bright spot in Ben Affleck's career as a director, it was an opportunity for him to team up with producer George Clooney. Who would have thought these two leading men would turn into a pair of the top directors in Hollywood?

ARGO will be released on Blu-ray on February 19th.

Argo is a good film and Affleck deserved a director nomination, but am I the only one who finds it somewhat overrated. I thought Gone Baby Gone and The Town were better. But Argo is just the most "award-friendly" film, so it gets the most attention.

So Not Worthy

Argo is only getting awards because Hollywood is in love with itself. Such lackluster choices are very unbecoming of such a tremendous year for cinema. Where are the nominations for movies like The Grey, Jesus Henry Christ and Killing them Softly? Read about the Top 10 Movies of 2012 with reviews and other honorable mentions at [link]">

Film of the Year!

Argo is the film of the year! I've seen it three times and it gets better each time you watch it. It's a shame that the Academy overlooked Affleck for Best Director because he would have won for his great work and talents. I'll be rooting for Argo to win Best Picture in a few weeks.

Can't wait to watch it on blu ray next week.
