Neil Marshall will direct the pilot for NBC's Constantine television series

01.31.2014

Things are moving forward quickly for the Constantine television series. NBC officially ordered a pilot a couple of weeks ago, and now we know who will be directing: Deadline has learned Neil Marshall will be behind the camera for the Constantine pilot. Besides directing films such as DOG SOLDIERS, THE DESCENT, and CENTURION, Marshall has also done some work in television, directing the first and third episodes of Starz's Black Sails, and an upcoming episode of HBO's Game of Thrones.

The Constantine series will be from a story by David S. Goyer and written by Daniel Cerone (Dexter, The Mentalist). No cast has been announced yet, but it sounds like NBC really wants to get this sucker made, so we could be hearing news on who will star in the near future.

Neil Marshall is a solid choice to direct the Constantine pilot. NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt recently called the script for the pilot "dark, witty, and scary," and I think Marshall could do great things with Constantine.

Definitely a great step forward in which hopefully there will be many. The Descent is one of the best horror films I have had the pleasure of watching and if can make the pilot half as good as the film, then we are in for a splendid time.

Wow. Haven't really been paying attention. NBC??? Ohhh-K. Regardless, I'm in. Love Marshall's work. Including the Blackwater/Wildfire episode of Game of Thrones season 2.

Sounds like a solid choice for the director's chair, it bodes well that they selected someone who has experience in the horror and fantasy genres.

This is great news!!!

Neil Marshall is one of my favorite new genre directors of the past decade. His directed episodes of Game of Thrones are a few of the best of the series. I'm definitely interested in what he comes up with for Constantine. Paul Bettany would be awesome casting!! So would Iain Glen.

I've read very little HELLBLAZER

but I think this would do better on HBO where they can really explore the horror elements. I suspect they're positioning this as an answer to SUPERNATURAL. Either way, looking forward to seeing what they do with it; hopefully it's not Keanu Reeves in the title role.

As much as I like Neil Marshall, directors don't have the same kind of creative control over TV series that they do for movies. A director of a TV series has to adhere to the show runner's vision, not their own.

I'll give this show a chance. I might not like Goyer, but at least he isn't writing it.

Marshall directed a kick ass episode of Game of Thrones. No worries here.

Every episode of Game of Thrones is kick ass because the showrunner, David Benioff, is a fantastic filmmaker. All of the directors on the show are working to create his vision of the show, not their own. Even Neil Marshall didn't get to make his vision of Game of Thrones, he had to make David Benioff's vision. A director on a TV series is more of a technical position. It is way different then how movies are made.

Marshall is no doubt going to deliver on his end, but what he delivers is
