Netflix wants more episodes of Arrested Development if the cast is available

May. 30, 2013by:

Arrested Development

The fourth season of Arrested Development was released on Sunday and while reviews have been mixed I personally have loved every second that I've spent back with the Bluth family. That doesn't mean I think the new stuff is perfect but for a show that has been off the air for seven years I think they did a damn good job. I don't think the new season was ever going to be able to live up to the hype but overall I was pleased with the fourth season.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has said the show has met his hopes and in an interview on CNBC recently said that the company would be interested in more episodes of the show, if the cast is willing of course:

‘Arrested’ is unique, because that’s really up to the talent. If the talent were willing to do more, and interested in that, I”m sure we would be willing.

Obviously how many people streamed the new season is a big part of why they are interested in doing more episodes. I'm very interested in seeing some raw data on their viewers but it turns out that the company isn't going to be releasing detailed information on their ratings anytime soon and there is a reason for that:

The reason we’re not doing ratings is because we really want to focus on over the first year. That we're really not trying to get people to all watch it the first day something comes out. Netflix is about being able to watch when you want, not having to watch at a certain time like linear TV is. So we’re really not focused on the Day One ratings, it’s really over the first year.

Rolling Stone has learned though that the network monitoring company Procera is reporting that 1 in 10 viewers have already watched the entire new season and 36% of one service provider's users watched at least some of the episodes. Pretty decent numbers I'd say.

I'd be thrilled with more episodes especially with how they ended the season but like Hastings said it all depends on the cast. If not a new season I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix decided to go with the long rumored movie. Either way, just give me more Bluths.

Extra Tidbit: How many of you have finished the entire new season and what do you think of it?

Loved the new season, bring us the Bluths in any form and I will be there front and center no matter what!

My pointless review.

Finished Arrested Development Season 4. After waiting years and years for either a movie, or something Bluth related it finally happened. When I first started up episode 1 I was extremely excited seeing familiar characters again! As it continued, I became disappointed. Then episode 2, slightly even more disappointed. Then episode 3, I became really disappointed...I thought to myself, "What happened?" Arrested Development is one of the best TV Shows to ever be on TV, and its so smart, and

Then episode 3, I became really disappointed...I thought to myself, "What happened?" Arrested Development is one of the best TV Shows to ever be on TV, and its so smart, and clever...AND this is what we get for Season 4 after waiting so long. A show that had my co-worker and I laughing hard while working box office at our local movie theater, just by talking about the show. A show that with every re-watch you caught something new that added to the smart humor of this show. I wasn't giving up on Season 4, even though I was disappointed, and even if it just got worse, I was going to finish this for my love of these characters. I put on episode 4. This is it...this IS Arrested Development. My disappointment vanished as familiarity became visible. As each episode progressed all the way up to the final episode I became a very happy viewer. Sure, this season wasn't anywhere near as good as the 1st 3 seasons, but some of these episodes hit the quality of humor you found in the 1st 3 seasons. Maybe at first the approach they took to this season with character based episodes threw me (and many others) off at first and the fact that the format of this season was different then the others was kinda of hard to adjust to made the opening episodes kind of off-putting. The end of the season was definitely setting up for more Bluth family adventures, be it a movie, or more seasons, either way I am looking forward to seeing Michael, George-Michael, Gob, Tobias, George Bluth Sr, Lucille, Lindsay, Buster, Her "Anne", oh yeah, "and" Maeby again! Hopefully!!

I give season 4------- 4 out of 5 frozen Bluth Bananas.

After a very slow start I ended up absolutely loving the new season. The slower pace and fewer characters definitely changed the pace quite a bit but I quickly adjusted to the new format. The last 4 episodes had me close to tears from laughing so hard. You really have to watch the entire season for it all to come together which I thought was great. I actually see it as one very long episode since everything is basically happening at the same time. The way certain jokes don't pay off until

Hurwitz did a fantastic job writing this season. I feel this season was the most well thought out and planned of them all. My only problem is that the characters definitely needed to be together more. Also the ending was very abrupt. If they don't make any more I will be forever disappointed. We HAVE to see how this plays out..... SAVE BABY BUSTER!!!!!!

Aside from the Buster episode (and the 3 first episodes that were funny, but more plot-driven than funny), I absolutely loved this season, especially the Tobias ones. I was expecting them to be awkwardly funny, but they were actually really dark and endearing (which I LOVED). And the way the season ends (kinda disappointing, that last shot), they HAVE to come back.

Just curious why you didn't like the Buster episode? That was probably my favorite episode in the entire season. I was rolling on the floor laughing so hard during that one, but then again it might be because Buster is my favorite character

Mostly because it wasn't as linked to the main storyline as the others and during the course of the season, we barely saw Buster. So while it was a really funny episode (the juice party with Lucille 2 was HILARIOUS), it just didn't work as well as the other 14 in terms of the entire season.

Fair enough, I respect your opinion and agree with it somewhat. Seemed like Tony Hale was the most difficult to get a hold of (probably because of VEEP). However I think the episode did a good job of explaining Buster's absence as well as linking him to the overall story with Herbert Love. Also remember that Buster is a Milford man through and through so just because you didn't see or hear him doesn't mean he wasn't there.

I just couldn't get over the fact that I was actually watching a new season of Arrested Development. I thought it was pretty good! And I found it especially impressive considering how the show was reformatted.

Yes, please!

I feel like a lot of people are being way too harsh with the new season. It was nearly impossible to live up to the original three seasons. Given the circumstances like the actors availabilities, I think they did as good of a job as they could have. I personally thought the new season was amazing, and still better than a lot of stuff on the air now. The way I look at it is even if you laugh once it is a success, because that's one less laugh you would have received from this show otherwise. And

And with how much stuff is left open at the end of the season I really hope they continue with more seasons, or a movie, to give the Bluths a proper conclusion.

Think we can all agree it's great to have the show back, even if it's for this one year. But off the air for seven years, geez. What other TV show in history got a second chance like Arrested Development did?

- Family Guy
- Scrubs
- Chuck (cancelled and uncancelled)
- Veronica Mars (via movie)
- Firefly (also via movie)

I'm pretty sure I'm missing a few...

That's an impressive list but I think the main point is the seven year gap. All of those shows were off air for a max 3 years, with the exception of Veronica Mars and we're still waiting for that one (thank you kickstarter).

Everyone should have a little more Bluth's in their life. Glad to hear we may be getting more episodes in the future.

One can hope, but if the actors have other commitments, it's a long shot.

I was disappointed at first, but I'm already starting to change that opinion

The Gob episodes are pretty much flawless.

Couldn't agree more. GOB was definitely my favorite. The "Forget me now" circle and entourage references (club named "and Jeremy Piven") were brilliant.

Just as good if not better than some of the previous seasons. Brilliant and hysterical. I loved being back with the Bluths

Haven't gotten to watch Season 4 yet. I've heard mixed reviews, but I've also heard that they get better with multiple viewings, as was the case with the first 3 seasons.

The season had some laugh out loud moments. No show this year did that to me. So yeah, I welcome more AD episodes.

Finished it on Monday and I thought it was fantastic. There were some differences of course, like the episodes focusing more on a single character at a time rather than the whole family but I had no problems with that at all. Take my money, give me more.
