New Alice in Wonderland featurette and sketch

The marketing campaign behind ALICE IN WONDERLAND seems to be heavily focused on churning out a great number of featurettes and behind the scenes looks at the film that they release every “Wonderland Wednesday.” Well, here we are once again, and we’ve got two new things to share this week.

The first is a concept sketch, courtesy of UGO, which shows how closely the original Burton Tweedledee and Tweedledum ideas match the finished product in the film. In fact, the entire movie seems to me to be a bunch of child-like sketches brought to life. I don’t say that as an insult per se, but it does make for an…interesting look. Click to see it bigger over at UGO.

After that we have a brand new, short featurette which explores Alice’s character motivations a little bit, and clues us in as to why exactly she’s wearing a full suit of armor in the trailer. This whole thing has a bit of a NARNIA vibe to me.

Extra Tidbit: I'm not sure what it's going to take to sell me on this, but I'm just not there yet.

Looking

Definitely looking forward to this. It seems far more movies are using 3D in a less gimmicky way and I love it.

No Doubt.....

it's gonna be amazing!
Johnny+Tim=awesome film!
Even though i was skeptical about the conversion of the 3d & seeing the trailer, i was like this film makes no sense to be in 3D.
But then i saw the trailer in 3D b4 Avatar, and i got super exctatic!
i almost peed my pants!!
cant wait!

Not to worry...

seems like every "new" look at the film is just the same footage previously shown, only slightly changed to make it look like a new featurette, so basically we're just being fed the same stuff over and over again and really getting to see that much of the film yet, the cancept art is pretty cool so I wouldn't worry about this fiom being spoiled for people.

tidbit: The fact that Burton and Depp are in this should be reason enough to make one want to see this.

The proof is in the pudding. So far, nothing - not the art school designs, not the Burton "quirkiness" that I hate so much, and especially not Captain Jack Sparrow - has given me any desire to watch this. I guess I'm just not the target audience. Every girl at work is excited for it though. Mostly because Johnny's in it, and because the girl Alice looks like an effective surrogate for them to live out their Johnny Depp fantasies through the lens of this world.

3D Trailer

I'd seen the trailer and all the marketing material, but it was the trailer in IMAX 3D (I think before A Christmas Carol) that swung me.

I'm officially excited, despite the obvious Narnia references

A buddy of mine called it after seeing the trailer. He said it looked like 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, except with trees'. Maybe Tim Burton is going to take a stab at trying to emulate Tim Burton of old?
