New animatic from The Avengers has the Wasp appearing in a fan-favorite scene

The Avengers with Wasp

Even though Wasp (Janet van Dyne) is one of the original members of The Avengers and has a long history with the superhero team, director Joss Whedon could not figure out a way to fit the character into the film. He said he tried, however it just would have been too much for a film that was already kind of crowded. But I don't think any of us knew how close Wasp was to actually appearing in THE AVENGERS, based on this new animatic that was released on Youtube over the weekend.

The scene is that awesome fanboy moment in the movie when the camera pans around the entire team during the attack on New York City, except this time Wasp is included. She isn't in her shrunk down form and it's not like the character is the focus of the scene, but it's still interesting to see how far they had worked on the film with Wasp in it before cutting the character from the movie. I'm almost positive Wasp will appear in a future Marvel film. Maybe she'll be teased in ANT-MAN or perhaps she'll make her debut in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON? Regardless of when or what movie it will be, I do think at some point Wasp is going to get her chance to shine on the big screen.

Extra Tidbit: Do you think having Wasp in THE AVENGERS would have been too much? Would you have taken one of the other characters out to fit her in, and if so, which one?

It's a shame Wasp wasn't in the final version because her presence would have made the movie even better. I remember reading a while back one of the reasons Janet was removed from the film is because she stole every scene she was in and Whedon joked they would have had to retitle the movie "The Wasp and Friends" if they used that draft. Hope she shows up on screen ASAP!

Would love to see the Wasp. She part of the Avengers as much as the Big three, I would have actually prefered Wasp over Black Widow.

Whedon also would have done it that way, but you know, producers

Maybe in the next Avengers movie, Black Widow might be killed off and then enters The Wasp.

Always thought Autumn Reeser "No Ordinary Family" would have made an excellent Janet van Dyne...

I think I missed what she even did in this sequence. In any case, glad they went more spiky jagged than USS-dildo with the Chitauri ship.

Pretty cool video, it makes me want to watch "The Avengers" right now and makes me even more impatient for the sequel.

Useless

She is one of those throwaway characters. Big whoop, she can shrink. Same with Ant Man, I think they are just really boring. Aquaman is more powerful and interesting (I know he is DC, but he is the current running joke) than characters that can simply shrink and be annoying. It isn't like they are going to show them climbing inside someone and growing to full size causing that person to explode.

"Now I claim your sun!"
That's the score, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Made me laugh when I heard it playing on this.
