New details and character information for Duncan Jones’ Warcraft

Warcraft

There really hasn't been that much news about WARCRAFT besides the announcement that Duncan Jones is directing the film and what was shown at Comic-Con, but Bleeding Cool has some new information on the film and what they reveal should be very interesting for fans of the popular video game.

According to Bleeding Cool the film version of "World of Warcraft" will not be an adaptation of just one video game from the series, but will take place around certain events from the first few games from the mid-90s. Bleeding Cool has also learned the names and details of some of the characters that will appear in the film:

Khadgar: the lead character is "a young consul to the Kirin Tor senate, rulers of the city of Dalaran. Early in the story, Khadgar is charged with investigating a series of crimes that have rocked the city, but as we go on, we’ll find that his mission leads him into a quest beyond the city walls."

Medivh: Khadgar's mentor and "a mage and the sworn protector of mankind against demonkind." The character is said to be a mix of Captain Jack Sparrow and Gandalf (don't worry he's apparently more Gandalf than Jack) and "he’s actually a more morally complex character than will be at first revealed. Expect him to be a scene stealer, too."

Lothar: "The Lion of Azeroth, leader of the King’s Army. He’s brave but maybe a touch too bold," and he is "set on a collision course with Medivh."

There will also be a King and his Lady (key supporting roles) and (of course) lots and lots of Orcs. Although Bleeding Cool doesn't have any specific character details on the Orcs, the creatures' story "will be intimately entwined with that of Medivh." They also say we should expect to see dwarves, trolls, elves, revenants and wraiths in the film.

Finally, here is Bleeding Cool's final thoughts on WARCRAFT based on what they have seen so far:

The impression I’ve picked up, from a few sources and the information I’ve been passed, is that this project makes no concessions to tidy mainstreaming, or chewing the gristle out of its meaty, raw fantasy ideas. The names are big and a spell check unfriendly, there will be mythical creatures all over the place, the magic will flow and so will the talk of prophecies and ancient artifacts.

I've never played any of the games (not my thing), but everything Bleeding Cool has to say about WARCRAFT sounds good to me. Duncan Jones should do an awesome job with the film and hopefully his movie will please movie goers and fans of the video games.

Production on WARCRAFT should start in early 2014.
