New Details on Kevin Smith's Christmas Horror Anthology Anti-Claus

1 year agoby:

Kevin Smith has dropped a few details for his upcoming Christmas horror anthology ANTI-CLAUS (formally titled COMES THE KRAMPUS).  The director will begin filming this September with a familiar cast including Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez and Michael Parks, all of whom appear in his next flick TUSK.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news and shared the early concept art of Krampus which you can check out below.  The movie will be for the taking at the Cannes Film Market next month.

Speaking to THR, Smith said:

When I was a kid, if they wanted to make a Christmas horror movie, they’d stick an axe in Santa’s hands. In Anti-Claus, we leave Santa alone and creep with the Krampus through twisted tales of holly-jolly murder, desire, desperation and despair. Just in time for the holiday season. In America, we’re taught that nice kids gets presents from Santa and naughty kids get coal. But in countries like Germany, Austria, Bavaria, Romania and Hungary, Christmas is more metal than merry: Saint Nicholas brings a sack full of toys for good kids and the Krampus carries an empty bag for taking away the bad kids. I wanna see THAT Christmas movie. So rather than wait for it, we’ll make it instead.

The film was described before as a horror anthology, with different directors taking on shorter segments.  They didn’t mention that particular method of filmmaking today, so it may be unchanged or perhaps expect news of a one story feature soon.

The aforementioned film, TUSK, will be released later this year and yes,CLERKS III is still planned for a May 2014 start.

Extra Tidbit: Do you guy dig Smith’s horror genre direction or are you looking forward to some familiar faces with another CLERKS?

I always thought his films were just "ok". I liked his big hits somewhat. But I loved Red State. I think horror fits him very well.

Its always cool to see directors cover multiple genres.

Honestly Kevin Smiths comedies have become stale. I am looking forward to Tusk though, his Red State was pretty cool too. Maybe he should just do more genre flicks. This sounds like it could be good. A horror anthology about Krampus.

I even watch his tv show Comic Book Men. The first season was the best, now its just the guys going out and having scripted adventures in stupid places like the Renaissance Fair. It should go back to being an hour of them working and showing off all the cool

There's a good idea for a KRAMPUS movie out there somewhere

sadly, this doesn't sound like it.

I haven't listened to the podcast in a while....

....but if he's talked about it I'm guessing the story went something like this......"So I'm sitting in my office at home getting baked and I had this great idea....."

Seriously Kevin, get some help. You're morbidly obese, haven't made a good movie in a decade, and don't even realize how much you've killed a really promising career.
