Costume designers Sammy Sheldon and Ivo Coveney revealed a few new tidbits of information about Paul Rudd's Ant-Man suit in the latest issue of Empire. The duo told the magazine that they were still working on the costume during filming for the Marvel movie, and Sheldon went on to explain why Scott Lang needs to wear a helmet as Ant-Man.

When you shrink, the molecules in the air are too big for your lungs. He has to be fully contained or he'd die.

Scott Lang's suit is Hank Pym's original Ant-Man suit though, so it's possible an updated version will be used in future Marvel films that would allow Lang to breathe without wearing a helmet. Speaking of Pym, many have wondered if Pym Particles will make an appearance in ANT-MAN, and although it hasn't been confirmed that the subatomic particles will be in the film, Empire has learned there are tubes filled with "mysterious chemicals" around Lang's body.

Ivo Coveney on the cables connected to the Ant-Man helmet:

We had a long discussion about the two cables going into his helmet. They're a massive weakness – Yellowjacket could just rip them off and he's dead. But, in the end, it just looks cooler with them on. The fact that he's shrinking is enough to get away with anything else, really!

Empire also has three new stills from the film, which include new looks at Paul Rudd in and out of costume, his co-stars Michael Douglas (Hank Pym) and Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne), and Corey Stoll's Yellowjacket.

ANT-MAN is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
