New details & photos emerge for Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

The many, many, many secrets around STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI are under more protection than the nuclear codes, but as we progress through the summer and inch towards the release date those layers will begin to peel off. One such detail was revealed today, and it involves the whereabouts of a one Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

During Vanity Fair’s exclusive coverage of the movie, director Rian Johnson spoke about what happened to Luke after the events of RETURN OF THE JEDI. In FORCE AWAKENS, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) told Rey and Finn people thought he went looking for the first Jedi temple. Johnson confirmed this is accurate, and the planet Rey finds Luke on at the end of AWAKENS is called Ahch-To, which is the temple's home planet. There Luke has been living with a race of indigenous creatures, whom Johnson would not describe, but said are indeed “not Ewoks.”

Details were also shed regarding the introduction of Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), whose presence in the movie involves a mission behind enemy lines with Finn (John Boyega), which Johnson said takes them to the city Canto Bright:

“[It’s] a Star Wars Monte Carlo–type environment, a little James Bond–ish, a little To Catch a Thief. It was an interesting challenge, portraying luxury and wealth in this universe. I was thinking, O.K., let’s go ultra-glamour. Let’s create a playground, basically, for rich assholes.

The story itself (in the source link) if filled with cool interviews and profile bits, including a great deal dedicated to the great Fisher. Of course not too many details could be shared, but reading it you can tell people on set this will be a unique chapter in the STAR WARS saga, on Johnson is intend on keeping fun and adventureous while digging deeper into the characters. We know a bit, but there's so much left to know, and chances are we will have to wait until December to find out all of it.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI arrives December 15.
