New Ghostbusters image, plus details on the film's villains

The first GHOSTBUSTERS trailer is expected to drop sooner than later, but until then this new image (courtesy of EW) featuring the film's leading ladies (Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon) will have to do.

EW also has new details on the ghosts the foursome will be busting, and the site is claiming that "Dead criminals from all eras of New York’s underbelly past have returned to roost among the living in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot," such as "Pilgrims, old-timey sailors, Revolutionary War spirits, and even a couple of zoot-suited gangsters."

With the amount of backlash the reboot has received, it'll be interesting to see how people react to the first trailer, although I know there are some who are dead-set on hating the upcoming film. I'll admit that nothing from the movie has wowed me yet, but I'm still going to give it a chance, and I'm hopeful that Feig won't prove the haters right.

GHOSTBUSTERS also stars Neil Casey, Chris Hemsworth, Charles Dance and Andy Garcia, and is scheduled to open on July 15, 2016.

Ok, so its an unnecessary reboot and the cast isn't funny and the director can't direct anything particularly good. That said I do want to see a trailer before casting my opinion in stone and those posters aren't too bad, its just that its not giving me much hope seeing the cast in every shot looking moody and wannabe bad ass with their proton pack stalk cocked over their shoulders. It is just looking terrible with each photo i see.

Won't be a Popular Opinion...

..But I'm pretty excited for this movie. I just find it funny that people are acting like somebody pissed all over their hushpuppies, because this movie was made. The original Ghostbusters movies aren't going anywhere so relax. Paul Feig has proven to be a hilarious director that has a good handle on the actors/actresses he works with. I mean Bridesmaids & Spy were straight up hilarious! If this movie turns out to be shit, so be it, but pretty much most the haters here have already made up

If this movie turns out to be shit, so be it, but pretty much most the haters here have already made up their minds (which is quite frankly ridiculous considering you all shell out bucks for more and more superhero movies but cry out for originality when Ghostbusters gets the reboot treatment) about a movie they haven't seen a minute of footage of, and as much as people try to defend that it isn't about it having a full female cast, a lot of that turned off feeling is. These ladies are all funny, and provided they get a smart script, the performances will be great. Let's be real though, the haters have already made up their mind, so even if this movie is really fricken good, they won't recognize it. We'll see. I hope it's good, but if it ain't, not gonna lose sleep over it.

The promotional images for this crap are all the same. These four women standing behind a prop or background all stone cold faces, trying too hard to be badasses. Where's the fun or excitement? It all feels so far uninspired and forced. No passion whatsoever. Fuck the movie! I hope it fails hard.

I kinda like that synopsis. Immediately thought of gangs of New York characters and zootsuits. There is a good possibility of "hilarity ensues."

Remember when Hollywood made big original blockbusters? Films that took chances and tried to tell unique stories? Me either. I hear that in the 80s all kinds of great original movies were made, like Ghostbusters. Sad that all these decades later we are still paying to watch these same films again and again and again remade/rebooted again and again and again. It's like being trapped in a room with a single TV show episode stuck infinitely on repeat.

Ripped off, or stuck to some canon material? I see that as something many directors do. Hey don't get me wrong, this is going to be a shit movie, but he's not doing anything JJ Abrams, or any other director of a franchise hasn't done.

Did not know Andy Garcia was in this. I don't know if my curiosity is in spite of people being so against this movie, or because of it. I know I felt the same way about Point Break that a lot of people feel about this movie. Two differences that have given me hope are that they are reinventing the story, and Paul Feig is a pretty funny director. A remake, or even a passing of the torch, just wouldn't be as effective, especially without Harold Ramis around. And maybe you don't like Feig's

And maybe you don't like Feig's movies, but since Bridesmaids, I do (also Freaks and Geeks, and Other Space). I don't expect it to touch the original. To me, the thrill I get watching Ivan Reitman's original Ghostbusters can't be compared to just about anything else from that period, because the concept is so different. This movie doesn't exist in an ideal world, I'll give you that. But in a world where another Ghostbusters movie was an eventuality, I'm not complaining that they went this way.

You do realize that you comment about calling us idiots is no different than Feig telling us to "fuck off!" right? I mean, if his movie is as good as he wants it to be, he shouldn't even need to defend it. Let the film speak instead.
I hope it isn't the F4 of 2016. That doesn't mean our concerns are not valid either. There will always be negative feedback but someone with real class and confidence in their work shouldn't cry about negative feedback

What Phoenixman78 and Jediheart don't get is that the fans of Ghostbusters that have lashed out towards this movie is that we don't want to see this movie fail. We do want to be proven wrong but so far the evidence has not given us much hope. What Phoenixman78 and Jediheart don't get is that the fans of Ghostbusters that have lashed out towards this movie is that we don't want to see this movie fail. We do want to be proven wrong but so far the evidence has not given us much hope. It's been clear from Feig and Rothman's comments (telling the fans to fuck off, great way to win us over guys) that they don't get the magic of Ghostbusters. They don't get why it was successful and why people love it after all these years; it was the organic chemistry of the original cast that made it feel effortless and made everything work perfectly. Any attempt to replicate (as evidence bu Ghostbusters II) the success is going to feel forced, that is why people have been so negative about this movie. It's not the cast being all woman, they can hide behind that all they want to but at the end of the day it has dick to do with the fact that none of them have dicks. It has to do with the feeling of Feig forcing his "women are funny" agenda that is outdated. Sorry to burst Paul's bubble but women proved they are funny long before he came around. What the success of this movie is going to hinge on is the chemistry of the cast, I'm worried (as I hope most people are worried about) it's going to feel forced. I am hopeful that Kirsten Wiig (she is one of my favorite people in Hollywood right now) can be the one to reel all of that in because I have a feeling that Feig's hard-on for Melissa McCarthy is going to be the movie's downfall. I'm worried she is going to get all of the "funny" parts and have the other cast members play straight off of her shenanigan's. Which is a shame because all of these actresses got their starts as comedians and I think Kirsten Wiig is hilarious. I think she's a million times funnier than what people think Melissa McCarthy is. Although Bill Murray loves her, so I'm willing to give her another shot eventhough I hated The Heat. Everybody in Ghostbusters got their chance to be funny. It was not just Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd that got to be funny. Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, Rick Maronis, Harold Ramis and other members of the cast got chances to have funny lines. Sigourney Weaver played things straight but that was the character. Sorry to get on a soap box but I don't want to see this movie fail. I just don't have much faith in those behind it.

I'm with you, man. Initially I was against this remake, especially when Paul Feig pretty much said f**k off to us fans. But now I approach this movie from another angle - it's a remake. As a remake, it won't be associated with the previous two movies as much as I like. As for casting, I'm okay with all female Ghostbusters but personally I think it's forced on us - as if it's a new gimmick to attract more audiences. I do have faith in all 3 actresses except for Melissa McCarthy. I'm afraid she

Exactly, Netforce. I'm all for being proven wrong. For months I was reeling over Heath Ledger being cast as Joker but I was proven wrong there and made that experience all the more special. I'm not getting that with Ghostbusters right now. I have proven wrong before and I'm always up to be surprised. I just cannot shake the bad feeling I'm getting from this.

The approach of 'fuck off" was wrong. Paul Feing, in later tweets, tried to downplay that, but it doesn't change that he did say that. Tom Rothman I expect that from. By antagonizing potential audience members they've done themselves no favors. I used to think the backlash was shocking, but I realize I felt exactly the same way leading up to the Point Break remake (and in that case, was validated). Anyway, I've taken the optimistic view here, and some people have not been strategic in their

Anyway, I've taken the optimistic view here, and some people have not been strategic in their choice of words, giving fuel to the idea that people upset at this movie are being sexist. I don't believe that is the case, at least for the majority. Ghostbusters is near and dear to all our hearts, and that IS the case. I'm just glad that the talent on hand is, for the most part, pretty solid. Even if some people don't like McCarthy, or McKinnon, or Jones. Hopefully we'll get a teaser soon, and be able to form "real" opinions

The only reason why I am being so critical is because of Ghostbusters being so near and dear to my heart. I don't want to see another favorite property of mine dragged through the mud and bleed dry (Die Hard and Terminator), I want to see success continued with the franchise. I want it to be able to expand and reach audiences. If this movie turns out well (despite my thoughts on it) than that will help usher in a new generation of people interested in the original film. I like to think I'm not

I like to think I'm not a film snub, I want my favorite films to continue to gain an audience and live on past their initial release and transcend generations. I want my favorite movies to be remembered and not just for that awesome movie that spawned shitty sequels. I want the legacy to be alive, not stalemated and beat to death. I don't want to make it seem like I'm writing this movie off, point in fact it's the opposite. I want this movie to succeed because I think there is potential there. I am just extremely worried the magic behind the original is going to be missed and it's just another cynical Hollywood cash grab. I hope the name of Ghostbusters can be synonymous with comedic magic. I hope this turns out well. I hope the first trailer looks good, I hope reviews for this a great and it suggests a return to true ensemble comedy.

It's funny that a lot of people think the all female cast is the issue when it most certainly is not. I'm sure it is for some, but the majority concerns are not the female aspect. I've never found McCarthy funny, I'm probably one of the few that disliked Bridesmaids and really I think Wiig was a great choice in general. Problem is, there are a ton of funny women out there. Much like how Ghostbusters original was SNL the Movie, this one is too expect 30 years ago SNL was actually funny.

Also, telling the fan base to fuck off shows a lack of confidence in the film, to me anyway. I mean, if you are getting slammed with negative comments, instead of "fuck off" perhaps let the movie speak instead. F4 showed a lot of disconnect to the fan base as well as threw insults but the final product was just...bad, so the negative concerns were validated. I don't want my concerns to be correct come the GB film release, but telling me to "fuck off" because I have concerns hurts the film, not me.

Frosty I get your point, but I just find it funny how worked up people get about this kind of stuff. Bad films are made and then forgotten, no one goes on about the total film remake or how awful the smurfs movies are. And I actually applaud Paul feig for telling the Internet mouthpieces to fuck off, he was getting abuse for months and months over this and now because of that you say he doesn't get it? If you where as such a fan as you claim to be you'd be excited about a new film in any form.

For example I'm a big batman fan and there's nothing that I won't watch that's batman related and pretty much enjoy (Gotham being the exception). So if whoopie Goldberg was playing batman I'd still happily go see it, I wouldn't get all upset and angry about it. I'm 28 so I grew up with ghostbusters, I love ghostbusters and I hope the next one is good, I'm just not crying because it's all females.

Ok, I don't expect my hand to be held when it comes to movies. I don't even really give a shit if these people are nice but for me Paul Feig and Tom Rothman telling people to fuck off for sexism is skirting around the real issue that most of us have with this film. They have not given us a real reason why this movie is awesome, all they're doing is acting like the reason why this movie could fail is because the Ghostbusters fans a bunch sexist assholes. I can't respect that, it seems like they're not confident in their movie. Just because I like a property or franchise doesn't mean that I'm not going to be critical and have blind love for anything that comes out with that name. What I want (and I hope other people want as well) is respect to be paid to the property. No, as a long living movie fan I expect respect to be paid. I would not see Whoopie Goldberg as Batman because to me that would show lack of respect beyond word. I know Jediheart is just speaking in satire with that comment but it doesn't change the fact that I expect respect to be paid when it comes to these properties. I had a bad feeling with Die Hard 5 and then everything that I was afraid of happened. I don't want any of these franchises pissed on and dragged through the mud to the point where I don't want anything else with that name. I for damn sure don't want to see more Die Hard anytime soon. I don't want that to happen with Ghostbusters too. Bad additions aren't going to ruin the originals for me but they can ruin future generations from discovering it. That's why I have been so vocal with criticisms. I want to be proven wrong, I hope it turns out well (as I've said before) I just don't see it happening given the kneejerk reactions we've gotten from Feig and Rothman. It just seems like they're trying to make excuses at this point. I don't care that it's an all female cast, I'm just worried it's being treated as a gimmick. Again I want to be wrong. I want these four actresses to hit it out of the park, I want people to consider Feig the best comedy director since John Landis and Ivan Reitman. I want this movie to break records. I want this movie to surpass Civil War as my most anticipated movie next year. I want to to want to see this movie but right now Feig and Co. is not giving me much of reason other than I love Kirsten Wiig. However, one actor doesn't put me in a seat. The pieces have to fit, or at least seem as if they fit. Yes, bad movies are released and forgotten but people still also bitch about Transformers for years and years. Ben Affleck still has black marks on his filmography 10-12 years later that people haven't forgotten about. People still bitch about Terminator Salvation. That shit stays in audience memory.

Eh Feig was telling the internet trolls to fuck off, not ghostbuster fans.

And there really hasn't been any evidence to the quality of the film.

How does Feig's and Rothman's comments reflect that they don't know the magic of ghostbusters? Maybe that was out of context, they are stressed, or maybe assholes. None of which negates, or gives, them the magic of ghostbusters.

I actually think the teams chemistry won't be a problem. It wasn't in bridesmaids or the Sandra film.

I agree with you that I dislike Feig's agenda to tell a funny movie with women compared to a funny movie that happens to have women. But the problem with the anti-ghostbusters crew are ignorant ppl like the soloist who want the film to be bad for no reason. Ppl who don't analyze film logically and sound like that douchey guy from good will hunting who Matt Damon asks if they like apples. They are just copying from some book they read, no original thought

And F4 filmmakers didn't insult fans did they? Pre-release of the film where they said we are going to do it our way we don't care ab canon, I mean? They never had that kinda attitude I don't think.

And Frosty 86, I hear you and I can relate. Everyone can. The problem is, those feelings are no longer realistic. This is not going to stop. So you gotta accept that, and be grateful you still have your original ghostbusters and either quit your movie addiction, or appreciate the current

Asking me to stop watching movies is like asking me to stop breathing, not happening.
Their comments are clearly only addressing the misogynistic comments. They aren't addressing anything else. That's where my concern comes from, they seem not to understand why Ghostbusters works. Feig seems like he is just pushing that "women are funny, damnit" agenda. I do understand final judgement only comes after trailers and the film is released, I just am not trusting what I'm hearing so far. I am also

I do understand final judgement only comes after trailers and the film is released, I just am not trusting what I'm hearing so far. I am also worried this will be used as a Melissa McCarthy vehicle instead of giving us a true ensemble. I know I still have the original Ghostbusters but I still want this property shown justice. I also want knew generations to discover Ghostbusters and this movie can help if it is done right. I don't want just an attempt at establishing a new cash cow out of something that is 30 years old. I also want a good ensemble comedy, I don't think that is unrealistic. I'm not against this project in principle. Like I've said I don't want to see this fail. I want it to be good. I am just voicing extreme concerns that I have. I am worried they have gotten caught up in a gimmick and forgot to make a real movie, not something that is just crammed down our throats. Like I've said if this movie starts getting good reviews, people are liking it, and I go see it and it's awesome I will be the first one to eat my words. Believe me no one wants to be wrong more than me here.

I took the filmmakers comments to be towards whiny critical trolls who think they know everything, not ghostbuster fans. And he prolly shouldn't have addressed it, tho I'm sure it was thru an interview, but he's put a lot of hard work in this film and I'm sure it's gotta be easy to be bothered by the criticism when a single scene hasn't been seen. And I agree, I think most of the hate isn't sexist.

But I don't understand your concept of advertising. Why would we think any film we haven't

But I don't understand your concept of advertising. Why would we think any film we haven't seen a scene of would be awesome? Only ones we would would be sequels really. This movie is 7 months away. There's no reason to have a huge marketing scheme yet. You mention excuses but they have only made like one comment, right? In all honesty, it's very likely this movie doesn't even have an ending written. It's 7 months out. They film won't really take form until the editing room. And so the filmmakers DONT know the quality of their film. They may think they killed some sequences, but that's just his opinion too. I think those responses were just something from an interview, I don't think it's trying to do damage prevention. Again, it's possible there isn't even a rough cut of this yet. So no one knows if it's good or bad. Ppl can have concerns or excitements, but that's it till we see footage, or really the movie

What I'm saying is that I hope everything comes together, I hope the trailers kickass and get me wanting to see it. I hope that the reviews for this are fantastic. If all of this comes together correctly my ass will be in a seat, probably opening weekend. I am not writing this movie off, I want it to be successful. Again I have to reiterate that I am worried beyond compare that Feig and Rothman are so wrapped up in being "different" that they are going to be lazy and not deliver. I am very

Again I have to reiterate that I am worried beyond compare that Feig and Rothman are so wrapped up in being "different" that they are going to be lazy and not deliver. I am very aware that you can not judge a movie until it's finished product but it doesn't change the fact that I am not vibing with things that have been said. I do not like that Feig got into a Twitter battle with people and got all defensive. I will fully admit I may have read into it wrong I don't like Rothman lashing out at people too, it gives me the impression that they are focused more on that "women are funny" thing than actually making a good movie. Plus Rothman is notorious for pissing on his properties, does X-Men: The Last Stand ring a bell? Or anything else he fucked up royally when he was at Fox. His track record is not working with him there. I am not saying that this movie won't be funny because of the cast, I am worried the crew behind the cameras are going to focused on the wrong thing. I am worried that they have gotten wrapped up in this supposed novel idea of an all female cast that they are going to forget that they have a job to do, which is make a good movie. This is a property people love, it is a property I love. The reason why I am on my soap box about this is because I want to see it done correctly. I don't want a half-assed attempt at updating a timeless film for a new generation. That is why I am being so critical of what we have gotten so far from the production of this movie.

I get the hate perfectly. Ghostbusters came out 30 years ago for Christ's sake. Get over it. The second one was ok, nowhere near the first one. Imagine putting a movie together, casting, script, locations etc and from the very start it was announced people were just thrashing you and calling you shit, your idea shit, your cast shit, everything is just shit. I think Paul Feig has a right to tell people to fuck off because not even a second of film has been released. Nothing. Look, I'm all for

Look, I'm all for caution, I really am but this movie is being HATED on and there is zero reason to do that until you at least see a trailer. Kirstin Wiig is very funny, Melissa McCarthy is hit and miss, I liked Bridesmaids and Spy but every copy of Tammy needs to be buried in landfill. The other two cast members I can't really comment on but give it a chance people, instead of automatically running it down.

You say Ghostbusters came 30 years ago and we should get over it. The thing is people haven't gotten over it, people still love it after all these years. They want it to have a lasting legacy. They don't want it ran through the shitter and bleed dry. Star Wars came out almost 40 years and people still clamor to the universe. People still bitch about the prequels and the last one of those came out 10 years ago because most people felt it was not worthy of the Star Wars name. People still

They don't want it ran through the shitter and bleed dry. Star Wars came out almost 40 years and people still clamor to the universe. People still bitch about the prequels and the last one of those came out 10 years ago because most people felt it was not worthy of the Star Wars name. People still complain about the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, when it comes to properties and characters people love they're not simply going to get over it.
What Feig and Rothman have done is position themselves in spot where they seem like a couple of petulant children, lashing out over shitty comments made by a small faction of keyboard warriors. I would not appreciate people thrashing something I've worked on before they see it all but these guys are also in a business that hinged on audience opinion. Which people make up their minds very quickly in some cases. The reason why Fantastic Four bombed is because there was months upon months of evidence that it was going to be a shit movie and reviews confirmed that. People stayed away just because of that perfect storm of events. Here, they've done nothing to curb the internet criticism, instead they basically met childish comments with childish comments and skirted around the bigger issue. The bigger issue is will this movie be a worthy expansion of Ghostbusters or is it going to be an attempt to cash-in on a previously huge property. They have done nothing to discuss the characters or the ensemble. They have done nothing to suggest these actresses are working well together and everything is coming in to place like it should. I realize Wiig and McCarthy were Bridesmaids but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be ass successful here. I am also worried where the original Ghostbusters is an ensemble, Feig is going to forget that. I have a bad feeling that Melissa McCarthy is going to hog the spotlight and not allow the others to be funny. That would be on Feig if that happens, he has had three successful movies with her and I can see him wanting this to be a vehicle for her and allowing the others to fall to the side. Again why Ghostbusters works is because the three main characters got their time to shine, they were all hilarious. Then other characters were allowed to come in and allowed to shine. It was a rich world filled with colorful characters, I want to see that with this movie. I can not stress enough how much I want to give this movie a chance, I want everything to turn out well. I am just having a hard time not critical of it because of the rocky start and Dan Aykroyd was talking about all these ideas for a third Ghostbusters. Then he was going and forth on things, it kind of seemed like he didn't even know what was going on for awhile. He just had vomited idea after idea instead of focusing on one thing at a time. I'm worried that the final product is going to be just an amalgamation of ideas just crammed in there, that is going to be a hodge podge movie with no true narrative. That it'll end up being a bunch comedians sitting around being funny for two hours. I'm not trying to be a troll, a keyboard warrior, or anything else of the sort. I'm not just writing off a movie 7 months before it even comes out. I'm not trying to be asshole, I want this movie to be good. I don't want to see it fail, I'm just having a extremely hard time at being optimistic about it.

This might work after all. Regardless of the backlashes the film gets now, I'm just glad to see Ghostbusters back on the big screen again.

Hmmm. He jacket says "Yates" wonder if that's her last name as in a new character. I'm not on that absolute hate bandwagon, I'll still see this and judge it based on the film, but I'm not wowed by anything either.

How would you know how bad FF was? You made a point of letting everyone know you refused to see it.

Also if FF had one of your crushes in it, you'd love it! Green lantern is a terrible movie yet because it has RR in it you say it's an underrated gem. Think it's time you grew up or came out.

Why hope a movie be mad? If you're a huge ghostbusters fan, wouldn't u WANT this to deliver in spirit? Maybe you don't have faith it will, but don't u want that experience again? I'm a fan of the deadpool comic, and I've got concerns about the final product, but I do hope it's good. And I bet BVS will be bad, but I hope it'll be good

The backlash or "hate" on this movie is not based on the quality of the movie itself (which nobody can judge now) but on the half-assed attempt to make money with another beloved franchise while alienating the whole fanbase by replacing the cult cast by some hip newcomers, reboot the whole franchise and give the originals throwaway cameos. The fact that Akroyd and Co. practically begged Murray for over a decade to do another movie is not very helpful as well.

Then where was the hate for Jurassic World and Star Wars and dozens more? I'm not sure their attempt will be half-assed either. I think the hatred for this film is a lot more complex. There are ghostbuster purists, ppl who feel the female casting is forced (I do), sexist ppl, ppl who love to hate on the actresses (i agree the black lady sucks on snl), and then ppl who are just on the hate train bc they basically heard a cool college student dislike it. I've said it before, but to everyone

I've said it before, but to everyone who's just mad that their favorite film is being remade and the ppl don't get the original, you guys gotta go. I understood your point, but you've also helped create this trend with the success of fanboy cartoons turned films like transformers. So Hollywood is now looking at its old catalogue. This is happening now. This is the way it is. Everything will be remade. Sometimes they'll be good or even better, but there's no point in continuing to bitch about it. The only thing you can do is not see it, but u will also have to stop seeing ALL franchise movies (that's all comic stuff) and hope everyone else does where they bomb. Otherwise, just accept it like taxes and death

Wonder when a trailer will land, be interesting to see if it's as bad as the morons are hoping it will be.
