New GI Joe feature

Last Thursday at Comic-Con, I was lucky enough to be invited to small cocktail hour to have a quick drink with some of the people behind GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA. While the film didn’t have a formal presence at Comic-Con, it was good to be able to hang informally with Ray Park (Snake Eyes) and JOE uber-genius Larry Hama (creator and writer of the famous Marvel comic series).

Because JOE was a toy line long before it was anything else, Hama doesn’t always get the credit he deserves for the modern GI JOE universe (the “Real American Hero” era). Hama created the vast majority of the characters and even wrote all those little file cards that came along with Snake Eyes, Scarlett or whoever you purchased.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes featurette from GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA that discusses Hama’s inspirational work on the GI JOE franchise, how he got the gig and his involvement in the movie. Check it out!
