I was fortunate enough to catch a preview of the Italian mafia epic GOMORRAH a few weeks ago in New York, and I have three words: Believe the hype.

This film–which examines the far-reaching, toxic crime syndicate The Camorra–is a brutal, unflinching and often devastating look at organized crime. Forget the lavish, almost carnivalesque Hollywood treatments of the mafia movie that we`ve all become accustomed to. Matteo Garone has created a crucial masterpiece that will absolutely drop you.
