New Hammer Horror!

A company renowned for its gothic and schlock content is getting back in the biz. Hammer Films is being resurrected like a creature from beyond the grave, thanks to Dutch producer John De Mol.

The original UK company was responsible for literally hundreds of flicks, often featuring variants of classic monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster and the Mummy. Aside from giving plenty of acting gigs to Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, other notables include the QUATERMASS movies, THE DEVIL RIDES OUT, some lesbian vampires, and PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES, which would later influence the work of Romero and other zombie makers.

The plan is to produce two to three horror pics or thrillers each year, starting from a $50 million pot. The first projects should be announced at Cannes. And hey, Christopher Lee is still around if they need a Dracula.
