New Hammer Horror!

A company renowned for its gothic and schlock content is getting back in the biz. Hammer Films is being resurrected like a creature from beyond the grave, thanks to Dutch producer John De Mol.

The original UK company was responsible for literally hundreds of flicks, often featuring variants of classic monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein's monster and the Mummy. Aside from giving plenty of acting gigs to Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, other notables include the QUATERMASS movies, THE DEVIL RIDES OUT, some lesbian vampires, and PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES, which would later influence the work of Romero and other zombie makers.

The plan is to produce two to three horror pics or thrillers each year, starting from a $50 million pot. The first projects should be announced at Cannes. And hey, Christopher Lee is still around if they need a Dracula.
Extra Tidbit: Personal Hammer fave (actually a Shaw Bros. collaboration): LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES, pitting kung fu masters again bloodsuckers.

Ahh yes, the Vampire Lovers.

Hammer did do the world a big favor by keeping the classic monsters alive, and filling the screen with cleavage and cleavers. Peter Cushing was the greatest at playing a pre-Hannibal outwardly calm sociopathic genius. Those were the days.

What the hell?

This is like... the best news in a long time. I still think Hammer movies like The Mummy, Horror of Dracula and The Curse of Frankenstein is some of the best shit in the genre.

Let's just hope these new ones will own too.

Ahhh the memories

Loved them all during the Saturday afternoon features (otherwise, ith was the Shaw kung fu flicks) Devil Rides Out (Devil's Bride in U.S.) is my all time fav and actually during the commentary, Lee was really hip for a remake with new effects and all----Dracula, Prince of Darkness was the next best

OH YEAH!!!!

I LOVE the Hammer horror films. They invented great cheesy gothic horror and served up a heapin' helpin' of T&A making the films nice and sexy. We could definitely use a lot more lesbian vampire films that have less of a EMBRACE OF THE VAMPIRE feel and more of a THE VAMPIRE LOVERS feel too, so God bless this crazy Dutchman!
