Marvel’s The Avengers roundup: New pic, New figure, New quote!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

A new image from Marvel’s THE AVENGERS has surfaced via Empire Magazine’s latest issue featuring Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) doing the “badass” walk.  Nothing too earth shattering, but cool enough.  I’m happy to see more Avengers-themed promotional items, especially new stills and images as I think most people have grown weary of seeing the same images used over and over again on everything from movie theater cups to door posters.

It’s nice to see something straight from the flick.  Of all the characters in THE AVENGERS films, the only one who we haven’t gotten much of a grasp on is Hawkeye (Renner) as he had a very small role in THOR, but not enough to gauge what to expect from his character in THE AVENGERS.  It’ll be cool to see how Renner tackles it.

I’m also happy to see the gray Black Widow costume being used, which the character has been known to wear from time to time.  Up until now I hadn’t really noticed.  Probably the most complaints have come from Cap’s costume, but I can’t express more how happy I am that they didn’t even attempt to tone it down.  He’s Captain America.  He wears red, white, and blue.  That’s the deal.  My only gripe is the lack of wings on the helmet.  Although the Ultimate version of Cap doesn’t wear the protruding wings, this isn’t clearly the Ultimate or regular Marvel Universe Cap, so it’s anyone’s game.  I’d prefer the protruding wings.

Speaking to Total Film, actor Tom Hiddleston, who plays the villain, Loki, had this to say about scrapping with our titular heroes: “I had huge fun with Chris Evans, as Captain America, because super-soldier though he may be, he’s still a man, up against a God who in his own mind is infinitely superior. Then, in the ring with The Hulk, we’ve got this silver tongued, lightening quick mind up against the embodiment of rage..Loki has this mercurial, transformative ability, not just physically but intellectually, so not all the fights are purely physical. Mind games? Maybe..”

As a bonus, I’ve included a peek at the Hot Toys Nick Fury figure, which we teased a while back.  The detail is astounding and it looks like a great figure.  For those who aren’t satisfied with the cheaper off-the-shelf figures at Target, this is for you.  Take a look:

THE AVENGERS opens on May 4, 2012 and I cannot freakin’ WAIT!
