New images emerge featuring the cast of Josh Trank's Fantastic Four

03.12.2015

Since the trailer debut, new images have been steadily revealed for Josh Trank's FANTASTIC FOUR. More than any other comic book film, FANTASTIC FOUR seems to be dividing audiences even after the trailer alleviated the fears of many. Still, the lack of production leaks while filming seemed to hint to everyone that something was wrong with the project.

These new photos are deliberately vague and only give us looks at Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, and Kate Mara in their containment suits. It is tough to tell if these are before or after the accident that turns them into superhumans, but the more detail we see, the more intrigued I get. The costumes look unlike anything we have seen in a superhero movie to date but not in a bad way. I still cannot say for certain what their purpose is, only that they are unique.

We have yet to get a clear look at Toby Kebbell or Jamie Bell, post-transformation, which is a good thing. The more mystery that can be built surrounding the reveal of their final forms will increase expectation for the movie once it is released. I have been pleasantly surprised by what we have been shown so far and I hope to stay that way.

FANTASTIC FOUR opens on August 7th and the sequel is already set for June 2, 2017.

Internet: "We're certain this movie will bomb!"

Movie Studio: "We're certain this movie will do well so we've green-lit a sequel!"

Everyone is so certain about how this movie will turn out. At least the studio has the benefit of having seen the movie. They have enough confidence to green-light a sequel, but not to release much in anticipation of the movie. Frankly I feel like we've been spoiled. Too much gets released way in advance of a movie. Are they hiding something by keeping the hype train slow and vague? Maybe. But if they feel shame and little faith in this film it's odd they want a sequel already.

I don't mind different takes on established properties, so I'm optimistic and intrigued. But whatever. The internet will always complain and studios will always make stupid decisions.

"It is tough to tell if these are before or after the accident that turns them into superhumans"

I am not convinced they will have an "accident", I mean they have already announced sweeping changes to this "origins" reboot of FF that even the basics are up for grab to me.

For me the most disturbing thing about the article is that they announced already a sequel in 2017. When this bombs, they may rethink that whole "throwing millions of dollars down the drain" concept of film making.

Judging by the scars on Mr. Fantastics face and that their suits seem tailored to their abilities, I'd say the accident has already occurred. The trailer clearly shows an accident.

What makes you so certain it will bomb. Probably rake in money from overseas.

Weird thing is all the negative feedback, occasional stupid comments from the cast and director and the fact that something just feels massively off about the whole thing - that kind of makes me want to see it. Is it going to be absolutely awful, just a bit meh, or actually quite good? That's an exciting prospect.
Still you could say the very similar things about AntMan but because his costume looks okay and people like Rudd he's being given the benefit of the doubt.

Why would people saying "This is a rights squatting exorcise for Fantastic Four by Fox, no different than what New World did in the 90's" make you want to see it? Fox just owns the rights to produce and distribute this franchise as long as they are in production, but this was just a vile move to play, to try and squeeze out Disney/ Marvel out of regaining the characters they actually own.

There is literally nothing in these photos I find appealing. What is with the strings on the suits? Do they have any function whatsoever? The characters look so serious and somber. Almost like they are dreading the box office receipts.

How odd that a studio is assumed to not have much faith in their movie when they don't release more trailers before their release date, and don't release them early enough. Seems like it should be the opposite.

looks good to me

this looks like a smarter comic movie, which is cool. I am really looking forward to it.
But the studio may be disappointed because the young kids who just like the pow pow kaboom of traditional comic book movies may be turned off. Marvel movies are usually great because the can perfectly balance the dumb with humor and tone down the inherent "comic book" silliness into something better suited for the big screen.

Looking at photos of this film reminds me of when I saw Super Mario Brothers (the movie) for the first time as a kid. I recognized the names and general look of the main characters, and that was about it. I don't mind taking some artistic liberties with the source material, it happens all the time, but sometime it goes to far. This is one of those times.

Were you around back then? I was. And there was a vocal group of Bat Fans who were " what is all this darkness about? " and "Michael Keaton? really?" And the hype about Jack freaking Nicholson as the Joker get ALL Bat Fans curious and interested. They gave Jack Nicholson TOP billing in the film.

There were fans who liked the cartoonish Adam West TV interpretation, the humor and lightness. But they were the vast minority and true Batman fans knew him as a Dark Night and the comic version was serious. So Burton was going 'back to the roots' of the character, a vigilante. The Fantastic Four is throwing away any semblance of respect for the roots and feeling of the FF.

I'm amazed at how little the promotion think they can get away with. This is supposed to be an action film, or at least a film with action scenes in it but there's no way you could tell with the material they've shown. This seems to be the movie for those who thought Ang Lee's Hulk was too much of a popcorn film.

^agreed. At least they're not spoiling the whole movie for us a year in advance. And besides, as far as the majority of ticket buyers go, as long as there's a good trailer and TV spots a month or two in advance there will be butts in seats.

Do you really think 5 months is a lot of time? The first Star Wars teaser had action scenes in it and I certainly don't think it spoiled the film. This kind of marketing works for movies like Interstellar because it's supposed to be contemplative. An action film isn't supposed to show you so little this late in the game.

I think the marketing and producer and writer screwed it up. The Studio screwed it up. It is a team effort screw up. I don't really have a clue about Trank. I haven't liked his comments about it. It sounds like he doesn't even LIKE the Fantastic Four. Not a good sign.

Quit your bitching

I hear SO many complaints that "this doesn't look faithful to the source material". You know what else isn't fairnful to the source material? The fans. The buy rates for the comic book have been so monumentally bad in the last decade that Marvel cancelled the line. If you guys love the book so much, then try saving it from extinction and stop hating on the director who is trying to inject life into a dead franchise.

The movies have given those of us who no longer have time to read comics (I study), a new way to enjoy the characters we loved when we were kids. Of course if it's not the same characters then it's not the same characters. Nothing wrong with that. It's a short sighted statement as is quit your hitching. Plus considering most of the green here is consisting of double and triple posts it seems the majority are non-plused.

@The_Soloist why would it be insane for a younger, modern Dr. Doom to have a screen name? We all have screennames. And it's not as if that's his defenition, CLEARLY he has some sort of intellect or fortune as he made his way onto the team that gets sent to the N-Zone. They're turning Lex Luthor into a nerdy, neurotic Mark Zuckerberg clone in BvS, you seem to love that idea. I just really don't get why you hate this movie so much, nothing released has blown me away but none of it is as shitty as

I love Kate Mara.....

She is absolutely gorgeous and a solid actress. Michael Jordan is also very talented and I have really enjoyed his work so far. I haven't seen much of Teller so am not sure about him, but everything I've heard has been good. They are not the problem.....it's the approach of the film. There is a desperation on the part of the film makers to make this reboot "realistic" and "gritty." The F4 has never been "gritty," and I don't think the tone will translate well. There is a desperation on the part of the film makers to make this reboot "realistic" and "gritty." The F4 has never been "gritty," and I don't think the tone will translate well. The bigger problem is the realism. Even if you can accept their powers could happen by natural occurrence (either by radiation or dark matter), nothing else is logical. You have to accept the silliness of the premise full-on, or trying to make it "realistic" just makes it full of plot holes.

So they have two major problems just in the setup of the film, then add to that Doom being super-powered instead of just being an evil genius. I'm sure it will be entertaining (and no worse than a bunch of popcorn movies), but what they've done so far has left me feeling ambivalent to the film. I'll see it because I enjoy the genre, but I have no enthusiasm, and don't sense any from anyone else I talk to either. This thing is most likely going to bomb epically unless the reviews are off the charts great and word of mouth keeps it in the theaters longer than normal.

That's a shame because I like the director, most of the stars, and the original property.

I just don't care enough about the Fantastic Four

To get excited by this. Even when directed by a genuinely promising director.
Nothing looks that amazing, the trailer underwhelmed and the images are just boring.
I don't want to hate it. I hope when I watch it on Netflix or somesuch that I have a good time. I'm not holding my breath though.

I'm not even trying to troll, but this movie looks sick. I think many of you have valid complaints, I really do, but if this movie got shelved right now and we never saw it, I'd wonder just how awesome/bad it could have been. My curiosity has peaked. I think some people's bias has shut off their ability to reason regarding this movie. For each change the movie made there are those completely incapable of of seeing how they could be made to work. Still not sold on the suits. Like I get why they're all different, because of different powers (although I don't see why short-sleeves would help Sue Storm become invisible). But why can't we have some color added to them? The comics themselves are pretty colorful, this dark and gritty vision just doesn't mesh with the source material.
I keep trying to put a positive spin on what I see, but I just can't do it.

You can tell Sue Storm is serious about what she does because her outfit is designed so that she doesn't even have to waste time rolling up her sleeves.

If this was something other than Fantastic Four, with what they have released, people would just see it as a potential sci-fi movie. That being said, when you are talking on source material that was never your own, you have a form of established universe that fans want to be able to relate to.
This could end up being a fun Sci-fi flick as well as a terrible F4 movie. Who knows. Could go lots of different ways, but that doesn't mean fans can't be disappointed and voice that.

That's the thing: what would we be supposingly praising if this wasn't a Fantastic Four movie? We know there should be some action scenes, that there is a character that turns into rock, that another will stretch and that the girl will turn invisible and have some kinetic abilities... we know all that stuff because it's an adaptation of the Fantastic Four comics but none of that stuff has been shown. We haven't been shown Doctor Doom either and we know he's supposed to be cool because we know

But we haven't seen anything at all. No villain, no action scenes, almost no manifestation of superpowers... Right now, the promotion gives us shots of actors dress in black staring seriously at we don't know what and ask us to imagine the whole film for ourselves. No other film promoted that way would have a chance to succeed. If it wasn't a Fantastic Four movie, that film would go completely unnoticed.

Looking at those pictures, i really get a "Cronenberg vibe". Does not feel like FV4 though.
