New images emerge from George Clooney's political drama The Ides of March

Jul. 27, 2011by: George Merchan

Pretty much anything George Clooney stars in is worth a look, but of particular interest to me has been his directorial work which has either been straight-up great, or at the very least, interesting in fresh ways.

His latest is THE IDES OF MARCH, and today we've got a new batch of photos giving us glimpses of the political drama's impressive cast. The film stars Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti, Evan Rachel Wood, and Jeffrey Wright.

THE IDES OF MARCH will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September and then open in regular release on October 7th.

Synopsis: During the frantic last days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, when an up-and-coming campaign press secretary finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate’s shot at the presidency.

I like Clooney as a director

because he always seems to focus on fundementals rather than trying to come off artsy and clever (which is what I dislike about his star vehichles).

Syriana, Michael Clayton, The American, Up in The Air; The Ocean's movies struck me less as artsy and more as fun.

@Antarius

Is there a movie in which conservative politicians are the heros?

Is there a reality where they're the heroes?
I kid, I kid. But you can't expect rational discource from a guy with a 'Don't Tread On Me' avatar.

Not since Teddy Roosevelt has there been a conservative politician so given to mythmaking to seem heroic. I'd argue there hasn't been a liberal since his nephew Franklin. Although I won't pretend Hollywood hasn't done its part to create idealistic politicians of pure fantasy, though they didn't always assign them parties to represent.

Is it okay to be completly indifferent to Ryan Gosling? I've seen him in a couple of things (including Blue Valentine), and while he's never been bad, he's never left a lasting impression.
The rest of the cast I love, so I will be watching it, regardless.

Go watch "Half Nelson", "The Believer", "Lars and the Real Girl", "Fracture" and "The United States of Leland". All terrific movies and performances.

Let me guess, he will play a liberal candidate that is being attacked and oppressed by the conservative hate machine. Maybe throw in a couple of tea-bag jokes for a good time. Looks like a pass. Let the negatives fly!!

That Believe poster is way too similiar to our current bozo in chief's hope and change bullshit logo.
