New images from John Carter reveal more epic-ness

Feb. 6, 2012by:

Some new images for JOHN CARTER have arrived, highlighting both Taylor Kitsch (John Carter) and Lynn Collins (Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Mars) as well as some of the martians, airships, and that cute little alien-dog creature.

Check out the images below:

As we grow closer to the film's release I find my own anticipation growing for the film, which I originally thought, "Eh, it looks pretty cool, I guess," and am now sold on a venture to the theater. If the film is actually really good (which I believe it will be) then it would be a true shame to see it fail at the box office, due largely to the fact that it's one of the few non-sequels to come out this year.

We, as moviegoers, typically whine and cry about too many sequels and not enough original material, yet oftentimes when we get it, we let it drown. Now, that's totally understandable if the movie sucks. Nothing you can do about that. However, there are plenty of movies that suck and make box office bank, much to the chagrin of movie geeks everywhere.

Personally, I'm looking forward to something a little more risky and adventurous. I'd much rather see more original concepts (even if based on a novel), than more MEN IN BLACK, TRANSFORMERS, CHIPMUNKS, SMURFS, etc.

We'll find out the answer to JOHN CARTER's success when it opens in theaters on March 9, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: I completely overlooked that Edgar Rice Burroughs, the author of the John Carter series of books, is also the creator of Tarzan. So, really, John Carter is kind of like Tarzan on Mars. Just, no apes. But, plenty of martians.

Mash-up?

I love the series....but from what I'm seeing, they are mashing up the first two books or parts thereof (Matai Shang played by Mark Strong should not be making any appearance in the first film!!)

Pay Homage

These books were great and JC is one of the first sci fi heroes. Im just worried the public will fail to understand how far ahead of his time Burroughs was and just say "seen it". Youve only seen it cuz 1000 writers were inspired by this series. pay homage

John carter looks great

it'll still fail because Disney says it'll fail, so by definition, they doomed the movie even if it's good, nobody will want to see it.
I think it has to do with the location: IE: dry hot planet - middle of summer... hey at least for the other mars movie Total Recall they were in air conditioned sets so the audience could relate better, This...

1) this reeks of "Conan the Barbarian" and after last summer's mega-flop that could hurt John Carter.
2) MARS NEEDS MOMS - huge flop, audience may

3)Climate, nobody wants to watch actors outdoors in a hot, sweaty hostile environment for two hours and then leave the theater only to return to another hot and sweaty outdoors environment.
Doomed to fail.

Great book. Horrible looking film.

I have seen nothing in the trailers that leads me to believe this won't be a big CGI crapfest which destroys a truly great story.

There's no chance this movie fails. It will make over a billion dollars with the majority of it being from the worldwide box office.

I agree the trailers have been lackluster, but only cause they are just ALL-CGI and no backstory whatsoever. Nobody I know has any idea what this is about, "so its some guy on Mars jumping around fighting aliens?" being the main question I get. Still Stanton wrote and directed the shit out of WALL-E and Finding Nemo, so I assume the marketing is just letting this film down and it's really a lot deeper and more thought out then the Prince of Persia-type of movie it's sort of being portrayed as.

It's cool Paul, Burrows did a lot of really great stuff that was far ahead of his time. The fans know most of his works but most of the general public don't know he was responsible for Tarzan

Good article.
