New jump-cut trailer and clip from Park Chan-wook's Stoker, with Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska

01.21.2013

Park Chan-wook's English-language debut, STOKER, starring Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, and Matthew Goode debuted at Sundance over the weekend and has been met with mixed reviews, many calling to attention it's lack of surprise, hyper-stylization, and lean towards pretentiousness, but that doesn't dampen my desire to see the film at all.  In fact, it just adds more fuel to the fire.  The OLDBOY director has always had a specific style that can be love or hate, and English-language debuts are always a bit tricky for those making the transition.

Today, we have a clip from the film, featuring Nicole Kidman unleashing some word pain on Mia Wasikowska and a new, jump-cut style trailer, which is both odd and compelling at the same time.  The film has always had a strange, noirish, murder-drama feel to it and it will be interesting to see what we get in comparison to what they're selling.

Here's the synopsis:

After India's father dies, her Uncle Charlie, who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her unstable mother. She comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives and becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

STOKER is set for release on February 28, 2013.
