The extended clips that were shown at The Con for THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL established that Klaatu, the extra-terrestrial played by Keanu Reeves whose come to warn us of our self-destructing ways, is one bad ass mofo. And the pics below show us that this sumbitch and what seems to be his crazy, spherical, organic ship mean business. And we haven't even seen his mega-awesome robot Gort. The Earth stands still on December 12th.

Why does everybody always slam on Keanu? Have we already forgotten the sheer awesomeness of Speed, The Matrix, and Constatine? Sure he doesn't have a perfect track record, and sometimes makes crap like Thumbsucker and Street Kings but what about River's Edge, Dangerous Liaisons, My Own Private Idaho, Something's Got to Give, or A Scanner Darkly? He gave fine performances in every one of those movies.

As for the film itself, I'm willing to give it a chance. I think The Day The Earth Stood

I think The Day The Earth Stood Still is a perfect candidate for a remake because its a movie that the technological advances of the last 50 years could legitimately help. That's not to say that they'll be able to top the original classic but they have a pretty solid cast lined up (Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Kathy Bates) and the studio must have a lot of faith in the director to give him two big profile projects in a row like this (he's got Paradise Lost lined up after this).

Keanu Reeves' "acting" worked in the Bill & Teds perfectly, but that's it. However, it looks like it might work in this too, as you can't really judge how a weird alien thing acts. How the hell did Keanu get cast in so many decent and good movies in the first place? I'll never understand it.

Even though it seems that Keanu Reeves and Mark Wahlberg went to the same " Constipated School of Acting ". They get away with it, I'm looking forward to this and seeing Jennifer Connelly in the rain
