New, less 'gay' trailer for Ron Howard's The Dilemma is now online

5 years agoby:

Last month, the first trailer for Ron Howard's comedy THE DILEMMA debuted, and quite frankly, it looked f*cking terrible. But on top of that, the trailer was also deemed inflammatory and has since been pulled thanks to its liberal use of the word 'gay'.

This all happened just last week after an appearance by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", where the journalist complained about the trailer's use of the word 'gay'. Suddenly, GLAAD (The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) requested that Universal remove the trailer (though according to Deadline's Nikki Finke, the group had no problem with it a month earlier), and naturally, the studio quickly folded like a cheap suit.

Now today, we've got the re-issued trailer for the film... but the jury is still out I think on whether THE DILEMMA looks any less 'gay'. You guys be the judge.

THE DILEMMA opens January 14, 2011.

Synopsis: Since college, confirmed bachelor Ronny (Vaughn) and happily married Nick (James) have been through thick and thin. Now partners in an auto design firm, the two pals are vying to land a dream project that would launch their company. With Ronny’s girlfriend, Beth (Connelly), and Nick’s wife, Geneva (Ryder), by their sides, they’re unbeatable. But Ronny’s world is turned upside down when he inadvertently sees Geneva out with another man and makes it his mission to get answers. As the amateur investigation dissolves his world into comic mayhem, he learns that Nick has a few secrets of his own. Now, with the clock ticking and pressure mounting on the biggest presentation of their careers, Ronny must decide how and when he will reveal the truth to his best friend.

Extra Tidbit: This whole thing with GLAAD and the word 'gay' reminds me of the brilliant opening bit to the second episode of FX's "Louie". You can read all about that RIGHT HERE.

seems like a long time ago, the word gay meant something else. and then it was adopted by the homosexual community. then you got words like "bad" as in thats bad, but it means it good. or thats the "shit" again good. many words have many meanings and uses. im really tired of the whole pc bullshit in this world. what about all the movies that make fun of fat people? i dont see a huge (no pun) amount of fat people killing themselves and then having fat people boycott movies with or about fat

It shouldn't be a big deal...

...because I (and most other people) realize it is supposed to be a joke (a bad one at that, but a joke non-the-less), but to promote the use the word 'gay' as negative descriptor can be harmful, especially to people who are struggling with accepting who they are. They are not OK with themselves, and then a movie tells them that gay=lame? That's just insensitive. Maybe when people actually realize that it's OK to be gay, these jokes won't phase people as much, but as it stands, it's like

Not a fan

I ain't a fan of Vince Vaughn, don't really find his movies funny. He's pretty 1 dimensional type of actor, but this actually looks decent probably bcos of the fact that its directed by Ron Howard who makes some awesome movies especially great comedies like Parenthood & the under-rated ED TV, which still cracks me up even after so many years of piss poor reality tv.

Could be so great because Vince Vaughn is one of the funniest man alive... but everything gets destroyed by Kevin James... Jesus... Fucking hate that dude.
Anyway, yeah, way better trailer than the first one. But still.. it has Kevin James in it.

This trailer was alot better than the first and even though the "gay" thing may have been a "low Blow", it is not the worst thing in the world said in a trailer or in a movie. The "Honesty Speech" at the end was hilarious. Movie looks great. Kind of wished it was Favreau instead of James.

The "gay" thing is maybe the best part of the first trailer, though it does make what follows a bit ironic. The second trailer is just better, and makes it look actually good, maybe.

I didn't see the issue with the 'gay' trailer.

But I was impressed with the trailer, I would definitely check this out.
