New look at the updated design of Godzilla from the upcoming reboot

01.13.2014

As we continue to be teased by fleeting glimpses of the beast in this summer's GODZILLA, a new clear image of the monster has emerged online in the form of a toy model. The display of the creature is in front of the latest official GODZILLA poster and sports a little placard that cautions this is not the final design (pending licensing approval). But, seeing as we are a few months away, I would venture this is likely what we will be seeing on screen.

Unlike the 1998 version of the Japanese icon, this GODZILLA looks to adhere to the classic design. Some updates are apparent, but the simply serve to streamline the body and separate it from the "man in suit" we have seen in countless clips. Nothing groundbreaking here but it is a solid reminder of why you don't change what works. The true test will be seeing the beast in motion as that is what will prove whether a CGI version of GODZILLA will work.

GODZILLA stars Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Johnson, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, Richard T. Jones, Sally Hawkins, Akira Takarada, Victor Rasuk, Yuki Morita, and C.J. Adams. It stomps into theaters on May 16, 2014.

Are the extra page views that important?

You post a headline "New look at the updated design of Godzilla from the upcoming reboot", then you take down the image and replace it with a stupid picture and the text "Image removed at studio request". I have an idea, instead of doing that.... TAKE DOWN THE STORY. Don't waste my time by making me follow a link to view an image you know isn't there anymore. Are the extra page views that important?

The snout and jaw look way to small kinda like paris hilton. In 98 the uber jaw reminded me of jay leno.

I would have preferred he still have the fatter legs and stomach area. He looks like Godzilla after 6 months of Atkins. But at any rate I can't wait to be a seven year old again, and watch my favorite monster tear shit up.

Okey so ...

1. It's a toy.
2. "Models are not final pending licensor approval".
3. This would never be newsworthy.

The toys of The Lizard ended up being a very good indication of how he would finally look in The Amazing Spider-Man. Those were unveiled at Toy Fair just like this Godzilla model is.

to be fair...

the 1998 "t-rex" godzilla design does seem more "scientifically accurate" to godzilla's origins.

Looks great-

At least it's not the T-REX rip-off that the Emmerich version had.
