New Mary Poppins Returns images showcase extravagant visuals, new faces

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The several trailers and teasers we’ve seen for MARY POPPINS RETURNS have teased a magical, colorful ride through trademark Disney wholesomeness, and like other December musicals of the past few years, it may have what it takes to be a big hit. What really acts as one of the movie’s big selling points is the fantastical production design, and now in some new images from EW’s holiday issue, you can get a better look at two of the movie's more extravagant scenes.

There are six images here from EW, with the first two showing off some scenes that mesh live-action and animation, just like the original did. In fact, you can see the original four penguins from the 1964 film. Nice to see they haven’t outgrown their dancing clothes.

After that, there are images of the cast, including a glimpse at the back of Colin Firth’s head, and a look at Meryl Streep’s Topsy, a cousin of Poppins who – with the Bank’s children – seeks out in hopes she can fix their broken family heirloom. Then there’s a manic Dick Van Dyke, who plays Mr. Dawes Jr., having played Mr. Dawes Sr. (as well as chimney sweep Bert) in the original.
