New pics from the PG-13 rated version of The Expendables 2! More Beiber!

01.26.2012

With the recent announcement from Stallone himself that THE EXPENDABLES 2 will be rated PG-13 after Chuck Norris used a Jedi Mind Trick on him to change his mind (which is accomplished by a single “wink” from Norris), a slew of new images from the upcoming sequel have been released, showcasing the changes that have been made in order to shift from hard to softcore.

Check out the images below to see what changes have been made to accommodate the money-grubbing rating below.

Seems legit, right? I think Beiber being cast is probably a smart move. I hear he made the suggestion to use water balloons instead of grenades and will even perform the movie’s theme song, complete with an opening dance number.

The film’s new synopsis is as follows:

Realizing that kids have a hard time sneaking into R-Rated flicks and that it costs the studio 2.5 trillion dollars when this happens, Barney (Stallone) and his crew meet at the treehouse where they are hired by Bruce Willis to collect his prized stolen GI Joe action figure collection, which was taken by a Belgian karate coach/toy collector (Van Dammage). After getting their permission slips signed they stage a raid at his dojo with Nerf guns, water balloons, and TV-14 swear words and break in to take back the action figures. There, they encounter a disgraced security guard (Schwarzenegger) who will stop at nothing to get a Turbo Man action…shit, wrong movie…who will stop at nothing to keep Barney and friends from getting the figures back. Also, since blood can only be shown in limited quantities (except INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, which was rated PG and they ripped f*cking hearts out!) they will save a shit-ton of cash in squibs.

Now, let’s be serious for a second. I liked the last half hour of THE EXPENDABLES and ONLY because it was non-stop badassery, complete with blood, bullets, explosions, and crippling kicks to the face, neck, and head. The first hour was obnoxiously awful. Now, they’re telling me that THE EXPENDABLES 2 is going to be just like the worst part of the first film, only with less blood, swearing, and violence. SOLD!

I’m a fan of most of the people involved in this film, especially Stallone, but it’s hard to get behind this monstrosity. It feels like cold, cold betrayal. This is a promise to put out after prom and then having your date pass out at the hotel. It’s a trip to Six Flags and all the ride’s are closed, except the kiddie park.

There’s always the possibility that it could actually be good. Of course, when we talk about possibilities, that means that Carrot Top could possibly win an Oscar one day. Guess we’ll find out on August 17, 2012 when Barney and friends take to the dance floor.

Extra Tidbit: You can blame none other than Steven Spielberg for the PG-13 rating as he is the one who suggested the new rating to MPAA President Jack Valenti after parents whined that the aforementioned Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, as well as Gremlins, were too violent for a PG rating.

So, so funny. I know that some people are asking why the swearing etc is necessary but come on, the big boys need an action flick too! It all adds to the cheese babe!

Thank you for this article, it may have saved my day.
Extra Tidbit: Why is Spielberg to blame, shouldn't the blame for PG-13 fall on the pansy ass parents who couldn't take Gremlins or Temple of Doom?

Thanks for the laughter and then tears. Reality just hit that this will actually be PG-13! I have been in denial, even with Stallone's confirmation. Still pumped to see it.

I haven't laughed that hard in while, especially at that picture of Bieber looking like he's having a blast.
I guess next there'll probably be a car chase where everyone is doing the speed limit.

Seems spot on. I'm with Roger Smith. Who are the douches that were begging for Norris, anyway? He had 2 known movies during the R action era that aren't even very good anyway (Delta Force and MIA). Other than that, he's mostly known for getting made fun of by Conan O'Brien and having jokes made about him on the internet. What's so badass about him?

I don't know what everyone is getting bent out of shape about. Yeah, it sucks it got a PG-13 but Die Hard 4 got a PG-13 and that movie kicked ass. The only reason the first one got an R rating was CGI blood that was added in AFTER shooting, it would've been a PG-13 without the blood. Calm down, people.

The first Expendable's flaw was having CGI blood. But after fans plunked down their hard-earned and proved an R-rated action film could still make money, is it too much to expect they'd go for some real motherfucking blood this time?

And Die Hard 4 was an okay action movie, but it wasn't a fucking Die Hard movie. It was a DHINO. Die Hard In Name Only.

DH4 didn't kick ass when compared to the first three. DH4 just had a good story with cartoon-like action. Watch them all together one week or something. You'll find that DH4 doesn't belong.

This is funny - but even if Stallone changes his mind over the backlash, what's the best we're gonna get? CGI blood and dubbed in profanity.
The whole point should have been to reward the fans of the original who made it a $274 million megahit by AIMING for an R-rating from the start. Give me my bloody squibs, tits, and fuck-bombs!

LOL! What a bunch of sissies and cry babies. Boo-fucking-hoo. What merited the R rating in the original? A few scenes with "CGI blood" as everyone calls it and I seem to recall on numerous occasions people doing nothing but bitching about those scenes. Other than that, a handful of F bombs. WOW...how can we possible handle a film without those things? Movies nowadays can get away with an enormous amount of shit that they couldn't have even 20 years ago. A hard PG-13 rating can still be

A hard PG-13 rating can still be extremely violent, minus an excessive amount of blood (which can often be unrealistic in the way it is depicted anyway). Being simply disappointed or preferring an R rating on principal is one thing, but throwing a tantrum and frothing at the mouth is quite another. Seriously, don't watch it if it gets your panties all bunged up. I have never seen such whiny little drama queens. You'd think it was rated G. Now go back to powdering your noses and painting your nails.

Balboa - I agree that The Expendables did not push the limits of an 'R' and I am still going to see Part 2, but I think the big selling point was the R rating. That was such a large part of their marketing campaign last time and it worked.

Name some of these violent PG-13 scenes you speak of. They'll either be from the 80s when PG-13 still had balls or you're confusing unrated editions.

CGI blood in the original replaced with practical blood would've more than qualified for R - in fact, practical blood is more impacting than pixels.

Rambo was a legendary franchise that had been around for 26 years before the finale and those films are known for their hardcore grittiness and to suddenly come out with a PG-13 version would have most certainly been an injustice. The Expendables (the original) only got an R rating, as I said, because of some F bombs and CGI blood, which honestly--though I love the movie--seemed kind of forced. I truly can't understand how people think PG-13 ruins the potential for this movie.

That's not the point. What made those scenes so excessively gory WAS the CGI. Without the enhancement, it wouldn't have been bloody enough to merit an R rating. I've seen some very violent scenes with blood in PG-13 movies. It has to be pretty over the top to get an R these days. People are being way too sensitive about this.

What kind of cunt fails to grasp the reason people bitched about the CGI blood in the original was because they wanted Sly to use practical blood effects, not cut blood out entirely.

Theres more than just f-bombs. Expendables was made as a throwback to 80 action movies. What made those movies great? Awesome kill scenes, lots of blood, ridiculous violence, and one or two manly catchphrases involving some cuss word. Why the cuss word? Cuz that's what men do.

Demolition Man came out in 1993. And what does that films "satire on society" have to do with when people "weren't probably born"? Are people that were alive in the 80's the only people capable of appreciating satire?

The thing that annoys me with the F-word and PG-13 movies like what I expect the Expendables 2 to be, is that you know at some point they're going to use their 1 allowed F bomb for some horrible line that draws way too much attention to itself and distracts from the rest of the movie.

That is the point of the extra tidbit.. Temple was rated PG13, because Spielberg had the MPAA create the rating specifically for that movie, so It wouldn't grab an R. Too hard for a PG, not hard enough for an R... thus PG13!

This isn't even news.

I understand the frustration behind the rating and humor behind the photoshops, but I don't recall this place having Op Ed articles. This isn't news, this is a senseless rant. I love classic 80s action as much as the next guy, but I couldn't give less of a shit about frustrations behind a movie's action getting softened.

You're the ignorant demographic Sly is aiming for. Because if you based your conclusions on fact, you'd realize it was in the 80s where a PG-13 didn't equate to the pussy drip like it does today.

Believe me, I loved the first Expendables. It only worked with a hardcore R rating, but at this point a sequel doesn't honestly matter. We've had our insane bloodbath of an action flick, it doesn't really matter anymore. I was as concerned as you guys when Die Hard 4 was pg-13 -- I was in middle school. At this point, I couldn't care less, and have more things to worry about than apparent pussification of action movies. Get over it.
Believe me, I loved the first Expendables. It only worked with a hardcore R rating, but at this point a sequel doesn't honestly matter. Imagine a PG-13 Predator. How much would that movie suck then?
The Predator removes his helmet and a bewildered Arnold says, "You're one ugly...stupid head, jerk face alien."

Boom.

I like where your head's at, DoB.

Who cares....

I didn't hear anyone complain when Taken or The Dark Knight were rated PG-13, and those are 2 of the baddest-ass action flicks I have ever seen.

@Captain Rating: Judging from your immature comments and verbal assaults you sure fall into the PG-13 group, the producers aiming for!

You didn't hear people complaining when Taken was cut to ribbons from its original hard R to please sissy boys?

Well I guess it's hard to hear anything with a cock in each ear.

So true...

Spot on! Sly is ruining his own franchise. Sorry to the dreamers who think this will be great in PG-13. It won't be able to touch the first movie's action at all. Also, while it was okay as a movie, The Dark Knight had wretched action scenes. You couldn't even tell what was going on the movie. The violence in the first Ex movie was terrific and the Dolph, "warning shot" stuff. It was great and will be missed in the new one. At least we will have Bieber and Barney the Dionasaur.

Gotta be honest, I don't get why so many people hated the first Expendables movie. I thought the whole thing was completely awesome. And I certainly am disappointed about the sequel being re-rated.

A movie like Dark Knight could be a great action movie despite its PG-13 rating because TDK had ideas, character, and stories that were worth watching. The action was awesome, and it served the story. It didn't NEED to be over-the-top in violence or blood.

Does anyone honestly think the

Does anyone honestly think the same could be said for The Expendables? Even as a huge fan of the first one, I wasn't there for the characters. I was there to see shit blow up and for people to get killed, and I was there to see it happen in over-the-top, bloody ways. Now that won't be a reality for the sequel. Hell yeah the rating makes a big difference in this case.

I thought the first movie received an 'R' rating only due to the audience having to endure two minutes of a closeup on Mickey Rouke's drooling face and crack-pipe blackened teeth.

So I guess there's going to be an 'Unrated director's cut' dvd? HA! Suckers.
If you really want to see your movies with an 'R' rating, don't see it in theaters. Wait until the 'Ultra Secret Special Quadfoiled Unrated DVD Box Set' comes out with the version of the movie you want on it. It's what the studios have been doing for the past few years now, make an 'R' rated movie and edit down to a PG-13, and then turn around and sell both editions on DVD to a gullible public.

I know this is in jest but...

Since when does that synopsis reflect a PG-13 film? It's PG-13, not G. You went a little overboard on the "comedy", sir.

I totally agree with ya man. It seems most people on here want an R rated film or nothing at all.

Oh, there's no comedy. I'm being completely serious. Barney the Dinosaur is CONFIRMED in the movie. And that ball pit scene is a spy shot from the set.

that was funny, but did we really need a whole article about the new rating just so you could bash the entire movie before it comes out? I think the test of a good director is if he can make the film seem gritty and raw even if it's not R rated. There's been plenty of PG-13 rated films that weren't kiddy. The new Batman films for one.

I still believe my point is valid no matter what the haters say. Do we need to totally bash a movie before it comes out, and before there's even a full trailer for it? Also Halflife: if you have to call someone an idiot who you don't even know, then you are the one who is acting like an idiot!

Keep comparing serious toned comic book movies to 80's throwback, mindless, senseless action you idiot. It just proves why you supporters of PG-13 are ignorant.

TDK wasn't a throwback to the R-rated glory days of action cinema. THIS IS.

But just imagine how much more awesome TDK would be if it were R. People would actually bleed when a pencil goes in their skull.

Stupid Excuses, stupid people

Die Hard 4 sucked period, stop using that bullshit pg-13 rating to support your point. STOP comparing this to The Dark Knight. Dark Knight was well written, directed, shot, etc etc. Expendables 2's whole existence is to be a bullshit kickass violent 80's throwback fest. YOU CAN'T COMPARE THE 2 you twits.
This would be like if they scaled Gears of War 3 back to a 'T' rating, and people's stupid defense would be "Well Uncharted is 'T' and those games are AWESOME!"

I can't believe

I can't believe there are so many idiots out there that don't get the point of why this movie was made in the first place.

@Horrorfan

I'm not angry at the rating, I just won't see it. I'm annoyed at the retarded comments some of the people make on here as defense of the pg13 rating, it's complete idiocy. It's like arguing with a girl, in which there is no logic, critical thinking and it goes no where.

I thought Die Hard 4 was pretty cool. Definitely not as good as the other three, but pretty good. I also don't think the rating had anything to do with it being good or not!
