New poster and stills from Stallone-penned Homefront starring Jason Statham and James Franco

Sep. 11, 2013by: Paul Shirey

The upcoming action/thriller HOMEFRONT is an intriguing prospect when you factor in all involved. For one, the film's cast is a mixed bag of interesting choices: Jason Statham, James Franco (as a meth-slinging villain!), Frank Grillo, Winona Ryder, Clancy Brown, Kate Bosworth, and Rachelle LeFevre. Second, the pic is written by none other than Sylvester Stallone, based on the novel by Chuck Logan, which is about "a former DEA agent [who] moves his family to a quiet town, where he soon tangles with a local meth druglord." And lastly, it's a theatrical release for Statham, which is few and far between these days, given the high volume of pics he puts out. Without a trailer to go off of it's impossible to get a feel for the tone of the flick, but with a new poster and stills, the picture is getting more and more clear and I'm getting more and more interested.

Here's the poster:

And, here's the stills:

As a fan of the genre and all involved in putting this together, my hope is that this will be a solid entry in the action genre for the fall, which is otherwise pretty dry. With each new movie season comes a bit of a drought for action pics and I'm going to cross my fingers for a solid show with HOMEFRONT. Statham, even when not hitting the big screen, is still Statham, which is as reliable as they come, and Franco tore it up as a "bad guy" in SPRING BREAKERS, so that alone puts this on the radar. I expect a trailer to drop soon, so we'll know more soon.

HOMEFRONT hits theaters on November 27, 2013.

It's Statham busting out his awful US accent again? Because I'll watch it just for that.

Franco is clearly in this for the lolz.

A guy of his acting caliber taking on a role like this out of choice rather than necessity? He's basically at the peak of his career and he's playing a "meth-slinging villain" in a Jason Statham vehicle written by Sylvester Stallone? You think he did this because he thought it'd enhance his career? Nah, this is just another one of his experimental troll attempts, like having a Comedy Central Roast (something usually reserved for has-beens resorting to an easy paycheck), or popping up in a

And I love it. I love every goddamned thing about it.

Yeah man, nothing cooler and more professional than taking a role "for the lolz" and to "troll" when everyone else involved will be working hard and taking it seriously. Not disrespectful at all.

I just love how Franco is fearless in doing anything and everything. The guy is one of my favorite actors because of it.

@Sigismundo, I'm glad you agree. Jason Statham films are routinely rubbish (do you really think HE works hard and takes most of his flicks seriously? If so, then we'll just have to agree to disagree...) so it's not like he's popping up in some kind of independent film to sabotage it and ruin someone's heartfelt attempt at filmmaking. This movie is going to be a piece of shit, we all know it - Franco probably thought it'd be fun to camp it up and play the villain in a movie like this, so let him

Someone with a Californication avatar should be more apathetic.

Stallone writing...

As long as the DEA agent and meth lord don't become friends in the end it'll be good.

This all sounds like it'll turn out to be an enjoyable flick, but I could be wrong. I'm positive about it for now.

Here's a question I never thought would be asked...

Who would win in a fight, Jason Statham or the James Franco? Looks like we might find out.

Small Town & Rural America...

Is where most of the meth is. A non-optimum place to get away from drugs that will really screw you up.
Since JS is playing an ex-DEA agent, he has weapons and physical mayhem skills. Should be the usual Statham fun.

Looks like Statham is wearing an American flag jacket which is a bit extreme for a poster promo

I know it's not part of the jacket, but the fact that Statham looks like he's wearing a American flag blue jean jacket is completely ridiculous. The tagline as well be "America is riding on his shoulders". Who designed this poster, Michael Bay? Right away I can sense who the general target audience is.

Is it too late to get Statham to swap roles with Grillo?

It sounds a little like Snitch. Seems like Stallone is also going for a bit of an Eastwood-feel with his direction.

The toolbar that follows you when you scroll down is really fucking annoying, but thanks for putting it there. I hope Joblo becomes a real clusterfuck of advertisements and widgets you can't fucking get rid of.

The toolbar is there to help folks get to another section quickly without having to scroll all the way to the top. If it's giving you serious issues then shoot me an e-mail. No need to have a fit in the comments section of an article that has nothing to do with it, my man.

Love anything Statham is in.

But Winona Ryder? Where the hell has she been? She just get out of jail from all those shoplifting sprees?
