New poster round-up: G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Stoker, The Master, and Beautiful Creatures

12.06.2012

What do you give the movie that's in the midst of living through a nine-month postponement? A new poster, that's what. One with more Channing Tatum than the last one, as you'd expect considering one of the rumored reasons for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION's delay sudden and surprising delay.  And with more Bruce Willis, as you'd expect considering... how, by all accounts, the movie isn't exactly about him.

Hoping to capitalize on that surefire success of February's A GOOD DAY DO DIE HARD when G.I. JOE: RETALIATION hits on March 29th, Paramount?

All I can say about this new poster for STOKER is that it intensely stokes my desire to see the film.  Which is what posters should ideally do, so far as I understand.  And this art does it in spades, from the visual metaphors on hand to the implied mysteries to the altogether unexpected composition.

Ironic as it might sound, I fully expect this film to be utterly unexpected.  And that's part of why I'm so excited for it.  March 1st, why are you so far away?

THE MASTER released domestically back September, but is just now beginning its expansion into other territories worldwide.  And the lucky dogs have this eye-catching piece of poster art to remind them of that fact.

This poster is actually very similar to the one above this text, replete with visual metaphor and mystery - just like THE MASTER, if you think about it.  Paul Thomas Anderson's latest arrives on DVD and Blu-ray February 26th, with the Blu-ray being presented in in 1.85:1 format so as to replicate 70mm look of the film proper.

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES has revealed two more character posters today in advance of its swiftly-approaching February 13th release date, revealing to the world that Jeremy Irons has made another curious project choice just to mess with your desire to see the movie.  Irons' gravelly voice brings a certain amount of gravitas and intrigue to anything it touches, Southern Gothic Young Adult Supernatural Mystery Adventure Thriller movies included.

Also Viola Davis, doing... whatever a Viola Davis does post repeated Oscar buzz.  At this point, I almost want to see where this all goes just to know.  Almost.  I suppose I could just read the book, but where's the fun in that? Reading? Psh.  What an absurd, ancient concept.  Forget words - I only use my eyes to read images now.  Please.

Extra Tidbit: But in all seriousness, what's your ratio of reading to movie-watching these days? Much as I love film, I'm sorry to say that mine is currently tipped strongly in favor of movie-watching... I don't think I've finished a book since last May. Oy.

I was excited many months ago with the prospect of seeing GI Joe. I enjoyed the mindless promos that I had seen, but now I have no desire to see it at the cinema. I'm diggin' the 'Stoker' poster. Tidbit: I haven't read much at all lately, but I'm thinking about starting to get into the Jack Reacher books.

There's a black chick on a poster that says some things are better left in the dark. I'm gonna go ahead and call that pro life propaganda.

The character's name is Amma. As in amma gonna git u wit dis coathanga son.

also

I also wanna ask if it bother anyone else when the actors listed on a movie poster dont match the order the actor is shown on the poster. The Stoker poster does it right, with the actors matching the name, but so many movie posters just jumble up the actors names when listing them, like The Master poster and so many others. Its a small thing that doesnt really matter, but does it annoy anyone else just a little

It really bothers me too, actually.

Though the poster for THE MASTER doesn't bother me in quite the same way as it's a very specific design with a very specific intention, and Phoenix's name needs to come first for marketing purposes. But generally, and especially with floating head posters, I wholeheartedly agree.

movie to books

i watch a lot more movies than i read books. mostly because i can get through a movie in 2 hours but it takes at least 2 weeks for me to get through a book. Also i've stopped reading the book before watching highly anticipated movies. I read the girl with the dragon tattoo book and then saw the movie. The whole time i was watching the movie i was thinking about what was going to happen next, or what was changed. I couldnt get into the movie. The book (which i thought was over-rated) ruined the

The book (which i thought was over-rated) ruined the movie which i thought i wouldve enjoyed otherwise. And then the same thing happened to Hunger Games. To me, if i liked the movie, i'll read the book, get a more in depth view into the story and whats going on. I'd rather waste 2 hours on a bad movie than 2 weeks on a bad book.
