New promo images showcase the final designs of the Guardians of the Galaxy

When Marvel unveiled the first official photo and synopsis for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY on New Year's Eve, director James Gunn took to Facebook to claim that he did not know that Marvel would be releasing that as the official image as it was designed specifically for Comic Con. Gunn claimed that the design for Groot and Rocket Raccoon was different than that image. But, in some newly revealed promotional art posted by Comic Book Movie, you can see how close that image was to how Rocket and Groot will end up looking.

While these designs are appearing on cups and water bottles aimed at the younger Marvel fans, it seems likely that they will be close to the final big screen product. These high resolution shots give us a clear glimpse of Rocket's gear and weaponry as well as the blades used by Gamora and Drax the Destroyer. Even Star Lord's gun looks pretty awesome in these drawings and makes me very excited to see the live action version of these costumes.

We can also see the orb that Star Lord is holding is the object that Ronan is after and will likely be the central item to the movie's story. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a message from the studio that these images are not final either, but with less than a year until GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY hits screens, I would think these will be pretty damn close to the finished product.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, John C Reilly, Glenn Close, Lee Pace, and the voice talents of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. It opens on August 1, 2014.

This nice and all, but considering this is a major Marvel film in the MCU, I am starting to wonder where the trailer is. Did I hear something about it being attached to Cap. Am.? I am guessing that is when we will get it.

At the very least this looks like it's going to be a fun movie. Remember when people used to like those?

Hate to say it, but as a non-comic book reader, I'm just not convinced this is going to be any good. Even when it was first announced, I couldn't see any conceivable reason for why this would be something I would want to watch. A talking tree and a gun-toting raccoon from space? Really? And then when I saw the after-credits teaser after Thor 2...it looked like something out of Men In Black. Maybe it was the clashing of the tone between Thor and GotG that was jarring, but if this entire movie

Maybe it was the clashing of the tone between Thor and GotG that was jarring, but if this entire movie looks and feels like a 70's low budget space soap opera...I'll probably pass on this unfortunately. But I'm hoping the trailers will convince me otherwise. But so far, nothing's getting me excited for this.

Can't wait for this film. Love the style and tone and especially the cast of characters they rounded up for this film. More excited for this and Ant Man than I would be for anther Thor film.

I'm digging the designs. I've only ever read 1 or 2 GOTG comics in my life, but from what I remember doesn't Star Lord have like an actual superhero costume he wears? If so, I dig the idea that Star Lord is just in that out fit at all times and puts the helmet on for fights, way better than having another suit to change into and fits way more with the flow of the story. Overall, I like the character designs on everyone.

the green on She-Hulk still looks weird (and yes I know it's not She-Hulk). I hope it's just the picture and will look better in the film, but women painted green to look like aliens have looked really silly before (Abrams' Star Trek) so I'm crossing my fingers. Love Saldana and I'm sure she'll nail the part, but it's just the look I'm concerned about... well that and the talking, two leg walking, gun shooting raccoon who's brother I just saw digging through a garbage can outside my window the
