New release dates for Fast and Furious 7 & Insidious: Chapter 3

Jul. 3, 2014by: Jesse Giroux

The release date for James Wan's FAST AND FURIOUS 7 has been changed again. The film was originally set to be released this summer before Paul Walker was killed in a car accident last year. After Universal decided to move forward with the seventh installment in the franchise, it was announced the film will be in theaters on April 10, 2015. It has now been moved up a week to April 3, 2015, and will open against the Nicholas Sparks adaptation THE LONGEST RIDE.

INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 starring Dermot Mulroney was also set to open on April 3, 2015, however it has been moved almost two months back to May 29, 2015.

It's probably a good thing the release date for Leigh Whannell's first feature film was moved since FAST AND FURIOUS 7 is going to be a huge movie, and likely wouldn't stand a chance opening against the action flick. It also would have been a little weird for FAST AND FURIOUS 7 director James Wan, who created the INSIDIOUS franchise and was behind the camera for the first two movies.

Which movie are you the most excited to see next year: FAST AND FURIOUS 7 or INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3?

More excited for Insidious. I was in love with Fast and Furious when it came out. Then part 2 came out and chiseled some of that love away. Part 3 came out and I lost all interest. Even tried to give the 4th one a chance since the cast came back. I just can't bring myself to devote anymore time to the franchise but I can still watch the first one over and over though.

Hmmm, that's a shame. I, too, was unimpressed by the fourth, but I really liked the fifth and sixth. I might have to rewatch the first but as it stands those latest ones are probably the best out of the whole franchise. If you have time to rewatch the first one again and again, surely you can give the fifth and sixth a chance?

They should switch those dates, F&F in April maybe a 100mil opening weekend, prime May opening would have been a safe $150 opening. Bad move, switch the 2 movies around for better box office success.

Everyone else is playing safe against the Avengers 2. It is highly likely that Avengers will suck out at least $500Mn from the box office leaving little for other films. Look at 2012 May, only one movie other than the Avengers made over $100Mn. The next big movie after the Avengers is Jurassic World on June 12 (also Universal). So a May 29 release date will not give enough room for FF7 to make money.

Captain America proved that movies can make decent money in April. For that matter even

Captain America proved that movies can make decent money in April. For that matter even FF4, FF5 opened in April and were pretty big money makers.I think this date is good for FF7 as it gets a whole month before Avengers:AOU
