New release dates for Kingsman: The Secret Service and Poltergeist

Aug. 6, 2014by: Graham McMorrow

You might not find this as exciting as the new release date for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, but change your calendar’s accordingly. 20th Century Fox has made a last-minute release date alteration with Matthew Vaughn’s (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, KICK-ASS) adaptation of the Mark Millar graphic novel KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, The movie was set to debut this October, but now Fox has pushed the film to February 13, 2015, going up against the menopausal monster that is FIFTY SHADES OF GREY. There isn’t a solid reason for the move; more time to polish off what already looks like a great movie.

Also, the remake of POLTERGEIST has been pushed from February 13, 2015 to July 24, 2015. Horror doesn't usually find a home in the summer; DELIVER US FROM EVIL tried to capture the same success of last summer’s THE CONJURING and go for a July release, and that didn’t turn out so well. We haven’t heard a thing about POLTERGEIST other than Sam Raimi is producing and Gil Kenan (MONSTER HOUSE) is directing. Upon inspection though, I did find that Sam Rockwell is starring in the movie; so it gets a pass for now.

Let's hope Poltergeist remake won't be as bad as The Omen remake.

Kingsman looks like a blast. Complete shame about it being shifted to February, was looking forward to it.

What happened to...

What happened to releasing horror films in the fall, mainly October? Honestly, I have zero desire to go to a theater and see a horror film during the summer when that movie season is oversaturated with big budget films. Remake or not horror films in the summer don't have the same draw. It's no wonder they don't make bank.

Poltergeist?

I'm still trying to get the reason for this other than trying to sell it as a brand. Malevolent spirit terrorizes a family. It isn't a unique format and it has played itself out pretty well in various versions. Some have worked ok, some have worked well and some have been terrible. Has there been any remakes of moderm classics that have worked as well as the originals?

The only one that comes to mind is the new Evil Dead film that came out awhile ago.

Shit

That doesn't bode well for Kingsman. But I guess that shouldn't have been a surprise given the lack of promotion for this movie. I hope this isn't indicative of the quality.

Dammit

I was looking forward to Kingsmen since Vaughn is directing. Someone at FOX really dropped the ball.
