New rumors regarding Batman and The Joker's relationship in Suicide Squad

03.17.2015

Back in January, we heard the first rumors of a Batman cameo in David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD. With Ben Affleck's character not slated for a solo outing until after 2020, it made logical sense for him to crop up throughout the DC Cinematic Universe. Now, more rumors have surfaced that put in perspective just how The Dark Knight may fit into the villain-centric movie.

While this new rumor comes via Latino Review, it does support similar sources over at Badass Digest that have Batman acting as the DC equivalent of Nick Fury.

According to sources, in the film Batman is some sort of big boogeyman that the government REALLY hates. Get this, prior to the events in #BatmanvSuperman, THE JOKER is the only one to really ever meet him or know him and that's why he's so important to Amanda Waller. They have footage of Batman in action which they watch. There is a bit of dialogue where they say Batman is the key to tracking down all "the supers." Very cool stuff.

With Lex Luthor a potential character in SUICIDE SQUAD and the rumored nature of his relationship with Batman in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, this could very well turn out to be true. I like the angle of Batman being this mysterious vigilante and not the hero that everyone considers him in other iterations of the character. Taking him and making him truly an underworld legend will be a unique take on the character. It also gives more gravitas to The Joker and makes him vital even if he is totally insane.

SUICIDE SQUAD seems like it has it's work cut out for it as it introduces and gives balanced screen time to a whole crew of new characters, but Warner Bros may be banking on this being their GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and the chance to kick off a half dozen DC properties in a single film. Whether that is because of the Batman and Superman connections or in spite of will be determined when the film hits theaters on August 5, 2016.

2020 is a long ways away

2018 sure. 2020 too far. They'll either force Batman into every DC movie until I'm sick of seeing him and won't want a solo outing or I'll totally forget what these movies did 5 years earlier. Yeah, I can watch them again but it won't recapture the spark I had going even up to 3 years after they released.

If they play their cards right, these new DC movies could have even less Batman in them than Nolan's trilogy!

Batman as this mythical bogeyman hardly ever seen sounds very powerful. Focusing the story on the street-level thugs and freaks trying to stay out of sight of the bigger freaks, could be DC is on to a complex super universe here.

I like how they're almost making Batman a somewhat villain.

True, but Amanda Waller is not a good guy. Shes not an outright villain, but shes not good.

In down with this rumor. I'd be very happy if it ended up being true.

I love the idea of how batman is viewed. But, not a huge fan of how the joker is portrayed. I don't want him some musclebound thug. I have no issue with him being ripped, but I want them to stay true to the character.

Check out the Dark Knight Returns prt 1/2

He won't be muscle bound, but he won't be a skinny frame.. They are simply looking for a chiselled looked. They already said that JL will be putting on weight for the roll. But don't expect him to be putting on mass like Hardy did.

Ehhh...?

Was wondering when this would show up. I also read that Joker is doing one handed push ups in his cell which is pretty nuts to me. What the fuck does he care ab the goals of being able to do one handed push ups? I understand the character was bigger in TDKR, but it was really how he was drawn. It wasn't that he was killer croc or bane. Those guys do one handed push ups. That's a (nother - and idk how ppl are hating on fantastic four and letting this slide) pretty huge red flag for me. I

I was recently reading a trade where Joker took a shower and the artist made him look physically pathetic but his mania and reputation scared a fellow inmate

I know I'm going to catch hell for this F4 reference so, despite standing up for the upcoming production and not even being a real big F4 fan (and being a huge fan of the Bats world), I will concede that the F4 trailer did make it look like it won't reflect the majority of the comics' tone, and so while it may be a good film, it looks like it will prolly be its own thing

I'm really disappointed with what I've seen for FF but have absolutely no problem with that statement. ;)

Just all the real intense hate for it I don't get. Especially pre-trailer. I guess ppl didn't lIke chronicle but I thought it was kickass and interested in what that director would do next (more so than say 500 days of summer). I've said all this before. I can say the same ab all the 5 main male actors (Sue - House of Cards?). Whiplash Spectacular Now Rock N Rolla Whatever the movie is where Johnny Storm gets shot that I'm blanking on, Thing is solid in a few movies. Especially Teller

After watching that I thought he could do a decent Spidey if he had a smaller head. And just angry over quotes and race. This film is ridiculous as the first real movie or sequel in the DC universe (how many movies before Marvel did GOTG?), with villains audiences aren't familiar with (again, why don't they have this as like the last movie of their "phase one" with a villain in each film I don't know), really gambling on the cast (Will could go either way. Jai = Sam Worthington. Hardy was a red flag. Quinn and Joker could be great), and then all this shit about the Joker. There's no reason he should be apart of SS. No reason he should care ab push ups. It's really the opposite of the character, wether you cast him as black or white. Same with Luthor. He shouldn't be Zuckerberg. He should be doing one handers. I just think it's kinda crazy. That said, since the F4 trailer, I can't argue with anyone that it doesn't look like F4 in tone. But the hate was just so heavy and I'm pretty sure there are more fans of this material so it's the lack of (equal) reaction has surprised me. I do hope they both kickass tho

Yea... Always thought that was odd but didn't they say that may change? How old will Affleck be then? Well, I hope he turns up organically in every movie like Fury does

I don't mind that a solo Batman film won't hit until 2020ish. Especially if they have Batman popping up throughout the other films (like Nick Fury). That way it allows the rest of the universe to mold itself and it gives time to distance themselves from Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.
