New Scream trilogy?

02.24.2009

We've heard lots of rumblings about a new SCREAM movie but a new SCREAM trilogy? Is there that much going on in the SCREAM franchise that they can come up with three more movies? (In all fairness, if the Weinsteins can somehow find need and/or reason to make a HALLOWEEN 2, they can certainly find a way to make a new SCREAM trilogy.) Well Rope of Silicon is reporting that the writer of the original SCREAM, Kevin Williamson, has signed with the Weinsteins to "recreate" the SCREAM franchise with a new trilogy. The information was sent in from an anonymous scooper who took a screencap of the William Morris intranet, the talent agency who represents Williamson. The screencap contained an internal memo that said, in part, "we've closed a deal for Kevin Williamson with THE WEINSTEIN COMPANY to recreate the SCREAM franchise as a new trilogy." Now this type of information could easily be faked but it's a pretty random thing to fake and there is certainly smoke around this fire. If you wanna see the purported memo for yourself, head over to Rope of Silicon to check it out while you wonder if Skeet Ulrich will find his way back into our hearts.

Extra Tidbit: SCREAM was originally titled SCARY MOVIE the name of the Wayans Bros. movie that would later spoof it.

i'm not a talented writer or anything, but seriously.. is it REALLY that hard to come up with an original concept for a horror movie? Or is Hollywood just becoming really lazy. this is just ridiculous

Why????

Is Hollywood REALLY that dried up for ideas?? I mean come on!! There are plenty of people out there that could write a great and original horror script that have no college, no experience, etc. but lame Hollywood is too snobby, unoriginal, and lazy to look for something new.

I'm on board

I say go for it. Let all just admit the fact that while the scream movies were entertaining, they didn't push the genre, they just lived in it.
A new set of Scream movies would be like a new set of Saw movies: It's the same thing as before. We will go to the theater, eat our popcorn, be entertained and go home. No more no less

I enjoyed the scream movies more than most the other horror movies released around its time, or today. This is just sad. Next we'll get a re-imagining of I know what you did last summer.

Ahhh...so now we come full circle.

I'm pretty sure this means they'll be doing another remake of Dawn of the Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

WHY-O-WHY

The first film was an original and cleaver movie, the second held its own but the third you could see that it was beggining to wain a bit. How could they possably make another 3, thats stretching it way way too thin. Come on people come up with an orginal idea, or at least wait another ten years and remake the originals like everyone else.

A 4th film (Neve needs it!)

How about just one more installment? Neve Campbell needs the $ + it would be good for closures sake? not another spin of the wheel? -which would fall flat anyway, no doubt.

Maybe, just maybe, they have something really cool in mind like dealing with horror remakes, seeing as they're so ubiquitous at the mo, but stretching the idea over three movies seems a little crazy.

Re-imagining after the third one left theaters not even 9 years ago yet??? That is absolutely insane and completely unecessary. The original Scream trilogy was a very clever and original set of films. A fourth one with the right story and bringing back original cast members would be fine--which is what I thought the damn plan was to begin with--but rebooting the trilogy? Unfuckingbelievable.

i rather get a retry at the scream franchise then more saw movies honestly. i had mad fun watching these movies and guessing the ending. Even though the 2 & 3 kind of blew. First one was a 90s classic

Bwahahahahahaha!!! They're remaking "Scream!" Oh, man, that's freakin' hilarious! And more than a little pathetic.

Halloween broke labor day weekend box office records and grossed more money than any Halloween film ever. So, of course, they should make another film. So, (in all fairness) the fact that you obviously didn't like the 2007 version, doesn't matter!

oh come on!

I actually defend "re-imaginings" but this is too much too soon.

THis is so ridiculous

I hate these money grubbing movie execs doing this remake after remake shit. Give some money to someone with a creative idea there are plenty of them out there. Make it small at first if you have to just stop giving us the same fucking shit!!

The only mileage I can think would be maybe with the torture porn movies. I agree there isn't room for another trilogy as yet (I only ever saw the first one). It's not something I'd need, but in all fairness it was a pretty decent idea at the time, and the basic theme is still relevant.

I didn't see the Scream movies the first time around. I have no plans to break that record.
