New Star Trek poster

03.28.2009

It's not often I can say I prefer "floating head" images, but this monochromatic, blobby vision of the Enterprise doesn't seem like the best final impression to market the new STAR TREK movie. Isn't Warp Speed supposed to produce all kinds of trippy colors?

Would be so much better without the lame-ass "The Future Begins" bullshit at the top.

I hate cliched taglines soo much.

I think it looks pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of the design, but I think it works.

Fact is that we all have been discussing this poster, perhaps the marketing team isn't so wrong after all.

When you see it, you can't help looking at it until you figure out what it is you are looking at.

I actually really like this poster. I would have preferred it as a teaser poster instead of the final poster, but it still rocks anyway.

@solo the hut

Exactly.

The Trekkies are already hooked. They dont have to wory about them going to see this movie.

They need a poster that attracts non-trekkies.

Nope, Don't like it one bit.

I can't believe Abrams let that out. It's pretty bad. It does not inspire me whatsoever but I won't let one crappy poster affect my excitement for this movie. The teasers were infinitely better than this poor excuse of smudge marks.

seriously?

this looks like a teaser poster rather than the final one.

i think for non-trekkies (like myself) .. are not going to look at this poster and think, "wow, i'm going to watch this!"

instead,
they're gonna go, "wtf is this shit??"

LOL

Remember guys...

It may not be the greatest poster but the posters for "Iron Man" were also pretty shitty.

direction

I dig the poster, but I don't know how smart it is from a marketing standpoint. But I don't give a shit about marketing. Marketing usually RUINS cool shit. A note to people that seem confused by the direction that the Enterprise is moving... Did you ever read a comic book or see the movie Star Wars? Speed lines help to indicate the direction something is moving- in front and behind. Besides, it's WARP DRIVE. Shouldn't it look a little odd?

Hey, cool, a poster for a new X-files movie... nope, it's a crappy Star Trek Poster. Or maybe its one of those Rorschach Ink Blot Tests. Let's see, it reminds me of a butterfly, no a subway train, no... yes, I got it-- it reminds me of the way J.J. Abrams totally screwed up the look of the Enterprise.

The Future Begins?

I agree with the other comments: this is a horrible poster. I clicked on the link to this story and scrolled down to look at it only to stare at it for a long time, unsure of what I was looking at. I was underwhelmed. In fact, it took me a while before I finally realized it was a poster for Star Trek (I zoned out I guess and forgot what I was looking at). Just bad.

But that is nothing compared to the tagline. The Future Begins? Seriously? This movie is to be released in May, around the same time as Terminator Salvation, which uses the tagline "The End Begins." So, apparently, May is a month for new beginnings: the beginning of the end, and the beginning of the future. How exciting!

I do think that a bad poster is not enough reason to expect a poor film, though (in response to deja vu).

I like the poster... but is Enterprise flying on reverse on something? Because the "travelling" waves are on the front side.

Engage!

Enterprise in warp-speed, I guess. But it ain't easy to see.

They should make a poster that appeal to the broader masses, to people that never thought they would go and see a Star Trek movie.

IŽl rather see this movie go mainstream just to guarantee it will make lots of money. This movie could actually be what the whole future of the Star Trek franchice depends on. If this movie wont be successful it could very likely be the last we see of Star Trek for a really, really, really long

This poster I could have made in 10 minutes in photoshop. Seriously, it's ridiculous how shitty some of these pieces come out.

This poster and it's tag-line is terrible.
