New stills of Robert Pattinson in David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis

What better way is there to regain your movie credibility after appearing in a lousy series about sparkly vampires than to star in a David Cronenberg film? Can't really think of one...

These new stills from COSMOPOLIS show Robert Pattinson losing his shit. Based on the book by Don DeLillo, the film follows a hectic day in the life of a newlywed billionaire, one where he cheats on his wife, is pursued by a stalker (played by Paul Giamatti!), is attacked by a protester and loses his entire forture over 24 hours.

Sounds like just the kind of dark (and darkly humerous) material that Cronenberg can spin into gold, but do you think Pattinson can handle the material?

Below is also a look at Sarah Gadon who stars as Elise Shifrin, the wife of the billionaire. Besides Pattinson, Gadon and Giamatti, it also stars Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, Juliette Binoche, Samantha Morton, and Mathieu Amalric. Helluva cast!

COSMOPOLIS will hit theaters sometime next year.

It'll be interesting to see how Pattinson holds up in a Cronenberg film. The premise sounds interesting enough.

If anyone can make a literary adaptation work it's Cronenberg

The Naked Lunch, Crash - two of the most complex novels ever written and Cronenberg succeeded in bringing them to the big screen. Can't wait to see what he'll do to DeLillo's text

I guess if there's anyone who can pull talent out of Pattison, it's Cronenberg. Course, I thought that John Singleton could pull talent out Lautner, and that turned out to be one of the worst films of the year, not to mention reaffirming my belief that nothing and no one can make Lautner a good actor. So, we'll see, I guess.

Wow. Wow on the typos. Didn't even get the guy's name right. This movie looks okay, I guess.

Well, this more then anything will be his make or break in MY book. I actually think him and Stewart (Lautner is legitimately heinous) get sort of unfairly judged by Twilight. I mean, there's no possible way ANYONE can not look ridiculous in these stupid movies. Just ask Michael Sheen, a more than capable actor. But if you can't make a Cronenberg movie with Giamatti, Binoche, and Morton work, you can't really do anything.

Cautiously optimistic.

I read the book by DeLillo years ago. I think Farrell would have been a better choice (as he was originally cast in the role), but the book's character is also a younger man, and I guess Farrell is starting to show his age. I'll remain open to Pattison as I'm not ready to judge him yet based on some terrible acting in a vampire series. I also trust Cronenberg.
