New Sunshine trailer

01.17.2007

The sci fi thriller SUNSHINE comes from 28 DAYS LATER director Danny Boyle and word on the street is that it's one ass-spanking good time. It's scripted by 28 DAYS writer Alex Garland and stars a host of talent including Rose Byrne, Chris Evans, Cillian Murphy and Michelle Yeoh. Fox Searchlight was cool enough to slide us a brand-spanking new trailer for the film, which you can check out below, along with a detailed synopsis that should give you some idea of why people are saying that this flick is poised to be, to use the parlance of our time, da bomb. It opens March 16th.

Fifty years from now, the sun is dying, and mankind is dying with it. Our last hope: a spaceship and a crew of eight men and women. They carry a device which will breathe new life into the star. But deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with Earth, their mission is starting to unravel. There is an accident, a fatal mistake, and a distress beacon from a spaceship that disappeared seven years earlier. Soon the crew is fighting not only for their lives, but their sanity.

Extra Tidbit: Boyle passed on directing a fifth ALIEN film.

It knocked my socks off!!! It's holy shit...fucking good! I'll be first in line to watch this.

The synopsis makes it sound like a mix of Solaris (with the weird sanity thing) and The Core (basic plot outline). Hope it's more Solaris and less Core though. I dig those mind fucking shit.

um...

I don't know if this looks like an action-packed thrill ride, or the single most appalling defiance of science in the history of film. I mean, I love me some Danny Boyle...but I foresee a need for some serious suspension of disbelief in this flick. In 50 years the sun is dying?! That's about 5 billion years too soon. Also...2007 or 2057...our species can't even control global warming. Forget about "re-igniting the sun". The trailer makes it look like a good time, but [link] the sun?

Putting aside the fact that the sun is 93 million miles away and you couldn't get within 5 million of those miles without being torched by radiation, how are you going to fix a star? It's a massive ball of Hydrogen fusion. Whose completely lame-ass idea was that? Oh...I see...Alex Garland's.

cool trailer...

...but enough already with recycling the Requiem score in marketing. Sure, it is easily one of the most haunting themes of the past 10 years but there are plenty of other cues to choose from. As for the movie: the concept, director, and visuals have got me excited.

evergreen is right, I hope Clint Mansell owns that music... because he should be making trillions.

Looks great, lots of screaming shattering and explosions.

NIIIIICE.....

Hey I am up for this movie....The film looks Great from the trailer and i really hope it does not disappoint me...Even though the plot is quite similar to event horizon and solaris(i am getting the feel of these movies in few scenes) but the effects in this film looks much more powerfull, which might help this movie to do well......Lets see what happens...

Yeah, I read this plot already. It was on the back of the package holding "Event Horizon."

Looks damn good. I mean, the direction looks superb. Also, I think Cillan is going to kick tons of ass in this.

Sphere, anyone?

Hmm, the synopsis makes this sound pretty similar to Sphere... only in space instead of underwater. Still, should be interesting.

kick ass indeed

Good trailer, but I'm always in for a new boyle film.

I would have liked a bit more dialogue like that teaser or clip that was online several months ago.

This looks kick ass. I agree about the song. As much as it's overexposed after being used in the ROTK trailer (or was it TTT?), I can't help but rock out to it a little.

F'in yeah.

There is an understood rule in the trailer industry: the Requiem for a Dream theme exponentially increases a trailer's kick-ass factor.

All the same, I've been look forward to this and the film looks sweet, w/music or w/o.
