New Terminator television series coming in 2015 will be designed to intersect with the big screen reboot

12.06.2013

It appears the plan for TERMINATOR 5 is not just to reboot the famed Arnold Schwarzenegger franchise on the big screen but on TV as well. Skydance and Annapurna are planning a new television show that will be executive produced by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier who are writing TERMINATOR 5. The series will be written and run by writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller who wrote THOR and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.

Details about TERMINATOR 5 are being kept secret, but according to Deadline, both the movie and the new TV series will be going back to the original 1984 THE TERMINATOR and will be built around an event in that story but taken in a different direction. From the sounds of that, it makes me think that TERMINATOR 5 will do what J.J. Abrams did with STAR TREK and change the timeline of THE TERMINATOR which will split the new films into an independent parallel universe that keeps the James Cameron films as part of canon and therefore creating a new one where the continuity doesn't have to be honored. These are time travel movies, after all, so this kind of makes sense.

I have nothing to base this on, but I am going to go ahead and say that the event they are building around is the death of Kyle Reese. Instead of his death in THE TERMINATOR causing the events of the series, if he stays alive that completely alters what happens to both Sarah and John Connor. That would be an awesome direction to take the story. We have already heard rumors that Reese would be a character in the new film and this would make perfect sense.

Alan Taylor will direct Arnold Schwarzenegger in TERMINATOR 5 which is slated to hit theaters in 2015, as is the new television series.

Enough!

Does someone not realize that out of 4 movies and a TV series, only 2 movies were good, the last of which is 22 years old?

I loved the 'Sarah Conner Chronicles', so if this new show is half as good as that, then I'll be a happy man.

The new Terminator series is already better than S.H.I.E.L.D. (that show's the worst).

Bc of the time travel, Terminator has the ability to always be great, and I hope they do follow the new Star Trek route. There are many great sequels but most that I think of right now are kinda of just bigger and better bc the origin is at of the way though they are basically the same old story (I know this simplifies the greatness of them, but I'm thinking of X2, Spidey 2, TDK), but T1 & T2 might be the greatest film and sequel in that it would have been easy to kind of follow up with a

Annapurna produces pretty solid films as well. However, with all of that said, I'm sure the new movie will be PG-13 again, and that by the time I have grandkids, this franchise will still be around, but they'll have no idea how great the first two films are, or even Arnold. They are slowly doing the same kind of thing they did to Die Hard, but this franchise has the potential to go along a lot longer, which I hope is a good thing, but I think will be a bad thing.

Shonk.....I can respect your opinion, but no. Those two are two of the greatest superhero films of all time.

X2 and Spidey 2 were horrible. Had potential but plot holes and lack of origianl story really hurt those films. Many fans overlook the bad elements of the movies due tot he great casting (incredible dock ock) or great visuals but sorry, those films were pure sh#!.

So they fuck over the original cast/crew of THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES by cancelling way too soon and now they want to do it again. Wow.

I think it's super weird that every article I've seen mentions Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller's past credits but not a single one has said they also wrote episodes of the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

There is another direction. Terminator rise of the machines proved that skynet had more people it wanted and needed to kill than just john conner. This could have nothing to do with the conners and more to do with the resistance sending people back in time to protect people that will help the resistance as well as stop some of the technical innovations that made skynet possible. By doing this the resistance can do the same thing that skynet is doing and change the future to their advantage

By doing this the resistance can do the same thing that skynet is doing and change the future to their advantage while crippling skynet. This way the show can also take place in multiple times whether it be the distant past, the present day which is our time, or the distant future. It certainly seems plausible and best of all it won't require destroying the time line setup by the previous movies.

The only reason they were killing the others in Rise of the Machines was because John was living off the grid and Skynet had no information about his whereabouts during that period. So in an attempt to hinder him in the future and possibly draw him out the TX was sent back with a list of Connor's Lieutenants.

Interesting. Skydance is producing a movie about SkyNet. :)

Anyway, I'm actually watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles right now. I think it could have been a good idea to finish the series with the same characters...but obviously they're going another route. Furthermore - and I think a fan brought this up somewhere online - it can be argued (within the Terminator universe) that these sequels and reboots that use different characters are part of different timelines, which is the reason we

(Of course, the reality is $$$$$).

The Sarah Connor Chronicles was brilliant stuff. I do wish it got the chance to develop and grow into its own thing.

cool to see their making another Terminator tv series. Just don't give it to Fox. They don't deserve it after what they did to The Sarah Connor Chronicles! That show was all kinds of awesome and they killed it! I wish they would just bring all the old cast back and start again!
