Update: New Interstellar poster hits; trailer to debut in front of Godzilla

05.06.2014

Update: Paramount has released the official poster, which you will find below for your viewing pleasure.

It's been 5 months since we caught a glimpse of Christopher Nolan's latest cinematic endeavor, and the good news is that it'll be less than two weeks until we get to see a little more.  The next trailer for INTERSTELLAR is set to screen before Gareth Edwards' GODZILLA, on May 16h.  We even have a description of the trailer in case you want to know what's in store.

As the Washington Post reports:

After a brief announcement, the trailer unspooled to show Matthew McConaughey driving his truck through corn fields while a lush orchestral score swelled in the background. Later, the fields had caught fire, an ominous dust cloud could be seen looming over a baseball game, and McConaughey (playing a character named Cooper) was reassuring his daughter that he loved her — right before being shot into space in order to save the world.

From the sound of it, this new trailer falls in line with the original teaser, in that we hear mostly music and dialogue and are given limited (but lasting) imagery. Sounds great to me. It's not too often these days we get to go into a movie blind, and while there will be more reveals before its November 7th release date, I enjoy a marketing campaign that keeps its cards close to its chest without being too gimmicky (lookin' at you STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS).  Regardless, all will be revealed this fall when we see what kind of space travel Nolan has in store for us, and how exactly that will save mankind.

Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR, starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Wes Bentley, Topher Grace, Casey Affleck, and Michael Caine will be released on November 7, 2014.

I'm really digging the poster.  Very CLOSE ENCOUNTERS feel, no?

That poster is giving me an 80's Spielberg vibe. Which is a great thing.

Hopefully this is as good as it is looking to be. Nolan is still on probation for that god awful shit they called "Inception."

Yeah good luck with the Inception hate, probably the most beloved movie of the last decade.

pretty sure its not the most beloved movie of the last decade, it's not even the most beloved Nolan movie of the last decade.

That poster is legit as fuck. Bit I'm also pretty positive it could of been an image of Pennywise the clown and I would have loved it.

One problem.

Shouldn't it be "It was never meant to die there"? Like that sounds way better. If the tag line is going step away from mankind and refer to us as an it - wouldn't it make just as much sense to not make Earth 'here'? Like if the tag line is supposed to be Omniscient like that ... It just makes more sense and sounds better.

Awesome

This is actually one of the coolest posters Ive seen in a while. No bad photoshop, no one's back to the camera looking over their shoulder, no giant head of someone in the sky. Mysterious & curious. Something Id want to hang on a wall

The only sure thing in Hollywood is Nolan

Nolan is at his best when he is making movies based on pure inspiration (Memento, Prestige, Inception etc.). I love how he markets his movies to create questions in the potential viewer that seem for the moment to rival the question of the meaning of life.

Star Trek: Interstellar?

After the ridiculously cynical Star Trek films, it's so awesome and refreshing to finally see a movie set in space that's actually OPTIMISTIC about exploration and pioneering. Based on the teaser trailer and the tagline for this poster, this sounds exactly like how Star Trek should've been. A Nolan Star Trek film? Sign me up! This sounds awesome.

It's great to final see something

I have no doubt Interstellar will be wonderful. However, I hope Nolan makes up for the lackluster The Dark Knight Rises.

Agreed, TDKR was pretty weak in terms of originality and story. Some parts kicked ass, but def. the weakest of the trilogy. Interstellar has a cool mysterious buzz to it.

weak in terms of originality? a film that uses the French Revolution as a parallel for the events in the movie is weak? Sorry please help me find another movie in recent memory that does that. I think most people have Jokers cock in their mouth still.

Beyond the complete abandonment of logic in most of the events of TDKR, it just seems Nolan phoned this one in. Not only were Bane and Talia's demise anti-climatic, it was plain comedic. Not to mention 'Robin' deducing Batman's identity from a single appearance he made at an orphanage years ago. Then there's the infamous Batman flying the bomb away from the city in order to save Gotham which seemed like something we'd see in Webb's Amazing Spider-Man movies, not the "genius" Christopher Nolan.

Yeah, Rises was a poor ending to an otherwise strong trilogy, it wasn't as disappointing as say Man of Steel but still a shame.

Well said ConMan....I'd like to see these guys tell me with a straight face and being honest with themselves, that had The Dark Knight never existed, they would still see Rises as lackluster. I for one still think Rises was kick ass, and Bane was incredible....yeah Dark Knight and Joker's character was better, but they are also better than almost every movie. So stop comparing the two and respect it for what it's worth.
