New trailer for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is like Clash of the Titans: The Teenage Years

May. 29, 2013by: Paul Shirey

For those of you chomping at the bit to see a sequel to PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF you can now breathe easy as the second full trailer has arrived, looking every bit like a Nickelodeon version of CLASH OF THE TITANS meets Harry Potter. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing for the core audience, but for those who prefer a little more "edge" to their mythology, it's likely that PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS isn't going to do much. Ironically, the film is directed by someone named after a Norse God, that being Thor Freudenthal, who also directed the adaptation of DIARY OF A WIMPY KID. So, pretty much, you should know right now if you want to click play below or not. If you're on the fence, I'll toss in Alexandra Daddario and Sean Bean.

Have a look:

Here's the synopsis:

Based on the best-selling book, PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS continues the young demigod's epic journey to fulfill his destiny. To save their world, Percy and his friends must find the fabled and magical Golden Fleece. Embarking on a treacherous odyssey into the uncharted waters of the Sea of Monsters (known to humans as the Bermuda Triangle), they battle terrifying creatures, an army of zombies, and the ultimate Evil.

PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS, starring Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Nathan Fillion, Stanley Tucci, Sean Bean, Missi Pyle, Daniel Cudmore, and Brandon T. Jackson becomes myth on August 7, 2013.

I like how this looks to have its tongue placed firmly in cheek. A lot of these "Young Adult"-aimed adaptations after the later Harry Potter films and (shudder) Twilight seem to take themselves far too seriously.

As a father that is frequently forced to attend the often unendurable glut of "kids" movies PERCY JACKSON was a rare treat. I actually liked it a lot. I'm glad to see a sequel and will happily take my kids to check it out.

Could be a good time

as others have mentioned, this looks closer to the book so that's a plus. And Nathan Fillion rocked his appearance, as usual.

Great!

I've read all the books and this one looks to be more in line with the books than the first was, which I still enjoyed. Hopefully enough people see this because books 3,4, and 5 are a lot better. I'd like to see it get there but actors kids may get too old. Sea of Monsters is similar to The Odyssey. Fillion ftw!

Nothing says ancient mythology like a rocket cab!
Also Alexandra Daddario's eyes.

Never expected to like the first entry, but I loved it. And this looks to be more of the same fun, and then some.

On a down note; too bad they felt like the awesome entrance of that mechanical bull wasn't enough and had to spoil its demise to us as well. Oh well, seems to be in the spirit of 50% of all trailers of late.

Didn't see the first one, but this looks like it has some cool visuals in it. That cab ride scene looks very inspired by Harry Potter.
