New trailer for Thor: The Dark World with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston lays down the hammer!

08.07.2013

The new trailer for THOR: THE DARK WORLD has landed, taking us back to the world created in 2011's THOR with a much Earthier tone, but with a lot less Earth and a lot more Asgard (and the nine realms). Chris Hemsworth returns to the role for the third time (including last summer's THE AVENGERS), along with returning castmembers Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane, Stellan Skarsgård as Dr. Selvig, Kat Dennings as Darcy, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Rene Russo as Frigga, and Anthony Hopkins as Odin. Rounding out the cast is Christopher Eccleston as the film's villain, Malakith, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Kurse and Chris O'Dowd as...someone.

Hammah!:

Here's the synopsis:

When Jane Foster is targeted by the denizens of the dark world of Svartalfheim, Thor sets out on a quest to protect her at all costs.

All in all, this looks really cool, but doesn't come close to the Comic Con sizzle reel that was shown. However, that doesn't stop this from still looking badass, particularly due to having Game of Thrones alum, Alan Taylor, at the helm of the ship. While Kenneth Branagh did a fine job with the first film, it feels like Taylor has brought a bit more atmosphere and style to the proceedings, which is a welcome addition to the franchise.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD opens on November 8, 2013.

Looks like they upped the production values a lot this time around. Hemsworth IMO is the most spot on casting Marvel has done to date (not including Fury which is dif) and he looks like he's only grown with the role. My only concern is a lack of a definitive villain, with Loki teaming up (we know that's not going to work lol) with Thor and Jane, I didn't get a presence of who the main threat was.

Still it looks fantastic, can't wait!

Planet Hulk reference maybe..

to anyone who has either read or watched the animated movie of the story "Planet Hulk"......does the stone guy at the end of the trailer look like Korg? One of Hulks allies should pads and all, even the shape of the head.

Look at the delivery. That line was so Jaime Lannister-esque.

Why TRAILERS suck these days...

At the very end there, the trailer should have ended with "All yours". But to give away the GAG, the hit/shatter/"anyone else" completely removes the laugh and enjoyment I would've gotten out of that scene in the theater. Dumbass trailer makers.

"Anyone else?"

Some great lines in this trailer ("I like her!" is another stand-out). I'm looking forward to this; both Hemsworth and Hiddleston are nailing their roles.

Nice

The trailer is pretty cool. It shows a lot, but gives nothing away. I'm especially stoked about Heimdall. Looks like he's got different duties now that bifrost is disabled.

Trailer looks great and it already looks better than the first. And just like Thor and The Avengers, Hiddleston is going to steal every scene he is in as Loki. He just looks so devilish in the film and the whole "I like her" line was fantastic.

Looks great!

This looks miles better than the lackluster movie we got with the first Thor. I'm glad Alan Taylor is behind the wheel for this, aesthetically it looks amazing (sort of Game of Thrones mixed with a bit of sci-fi) and I'm sure Loki is going to steal the show. The only complaint: "The very fabric of reality will be torn apart" is pretty much the cheesiest line I've heard so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I mean, come on.

o' Foster ??

Now I am guessing now that both Kat and Skaarsgard appear in Thor 2, that Foster being in Asgaard has more significance than a romantic foil. What if in her Bridge experiments punches a hole to Beyonder Universe. An uncubed sentience voiced by O'Dowd speaks to Malekeith about an awakened cube returning. Yada Yada Yada, cube gets sent through pinhole and merges with sentience to create Beyonder, who like Loki is nether good nor evil and has a playful dynamic with Dr Strange, who believes he can

o' Nipident ??

o'Dowd i think is a cosmic being or accidentally causes a pin hole to Beyonder realm (molecule man). He would make a great curious being. The cube waking up keeps behaving and gives Malekeith a way to get revenge by undoing the nine realms and maybe kickstarting ragnarok. He starts wars under the guise of the Queen of the Dark Elves and triggers races unfriendly to Asgardians to fight on other worlds. This is all a diversion to get the Cube and change reality. .

O' Dowd ??

Trailer looks great. Thor fights a rock troll or a Korg (only hoping to eventually get Beta Ray Bill).
O' Dowd is unlisted, which means he has probably a small but important role/cameo. I am thinking he either ignites or is a result of this storyline. Just read a bunch on Beyonder, Molecule Man and sentient cosmic cubes on Comic Vine. The cube has a personality "she is behaving", Skaarsgard is seen in this trailer having interacted with the cube in the past. Odin keeps focusing on the time

Not bad

Some of those battles looked smallish in scale. I'm sure it's fine but i just expected something a bit more epic. Well hopefully they are saving that stuff for the movie proper.

The first one was my favourite of phase 1 of Marvel movies (yes, I liked it more than the Avengers), so I am clearly looking forward to Thor 2. From this trailer, it looks like it's more of the same good stuff, and I'm hoping that Marvel finally has a good sequel on their hands (sorry, but Ironman 2 and 3 we're awful compared to Ironman 1).

Loving the mood and atmosphere that Alan Taylor looks to have given it. I was surprised by how much I liked the first one and am looking forward to seeing more of Asgard and the other realms; glad this doesn't look like it will spend too much time on our admittedly more boring plane of existence.
