New trailer released for Brad Pitt's Netflix satire War Machine

03.30.2017

No, not that War Machine, this is instead a dark satire from Netflix about the war in Afghanistan during the Bush years, starring Brad Pitt. Here's the official synopsis:

In a film for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an anti-establishment, pro-soldier exploration in the form of an absurdist war story of a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story’s core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on a successful, charismatic four-star general who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by his own hubris and a journalist’s no-holds-barred expose. War Machine addresses the debt we owe to soldiers to question the purposes to which they are being directed. The Netflix original film is inspired by the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by the late journalist Michael Hastings. Joining Pitt in War Machine is a highly decorated cast including Emory Cohen, RJ Cyler, Topher Grace, Anthony Michael Hall, Anthony Hayes, John Magaro, Scoot McNairy, Will Poulter, Alan Ruck, Lakeith Stanfield, Josh Stewart, Meg Tilly, Tilda Swinton and Sir Ben Kingsley. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Ted Sarandos

And here's a new official trailer for the dark comedy:

Honestly, this looks pretty fucking amazing to me. I love dark satires, especially about the folly of war (movies like DR. STRANGELOVE, CATCH-22, THREE KINGS, etc.) so this is right up my alley. I also think it's pretty timely, so it's got that going for it too. I'm definitely keeping it on my radar.

Either way, WAR MACHINE will begin streaming on Netflix May 26th, 2017.

Extra Tidbit: Kind of looks like Brad Pitt's just kind of doing Aldo Raine in modern day, huh?

I'm definitely in!

The last time I saw a good political satire film was back on 2009 when "In the Loop" came out. Some talented people are involved with this project, I hope it won't let me down!

My thumbs down is for Pitt's performance. He might be doing this on purpose, since it's a dark satire, but Pitt sounds like he trying to act. The accent, or whatever you want to call it, doesn't sound natural at all.
