New TV spot for Carrie remake with ChloŽ Grace Moretz touts an R-rating

09.23.2013

The remake/reimagining of Stephen King's best-seller CARRIE is just a month away and the latest TV spot for the film adds a little more incentive to go check it out as the familiar R-rating logo pops up just at the end. Now, does that mean CARRIE will earn that R? Hard to say at this point, but with director Kimberly Peirce at the helm and stars Chloë Grace Moretz,, Julianne Moore, and Judy Greer factored in there's certainly some real promise that this could be at least a fitting rival to Brian De Palma's 1976 original adaptation.

Don't. Go. To. Prom.:

Here's the synopsis:

A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

I guess my resounding thought on CARRIE is whether or not it's necessary. It makes sense to tap into a series that has been "reimagined" and "sequeled" out enough that most folks are aware of it, but aren't there thousands of other horror novels out there that have yet to reach the big screen? That said, this looks serviceable enough, even if I'm annoyed beyond all reason with the "black blood" in the TV spots and trailers. It's CARRIE, man. The image of her covered in blood is synonymous with the character. Instead, it looks like she's being doused in oil, which probably wouldn't bode well for her "fire" powers.

CARRIE starts murdering classmates with her mind on October 18, 2013.

Re-imagining my bum. This looks lazy awful. If new Carrie and new Robocop had a love child it would be a remake of (the 80's) The Fly. Oh the horror.

It won't rival DePalma's. Won't be close. Remember his version of Carrie was unattractive & just kind of cute with her prom makeover? Like in the book?

They picked the wrong superpowered girl. Should have done Firestarter. The original is garbage, in spite of some good actors.

Sissy Spacek is how we all think of her, but in the book Carrie was pudgy with lots of zits and greasy blonde/brown hair.

And I would love to see a remake or even a sequel to Firestarter. As in Carrie, the special effects at the time could not really show the powers as King wrote them. That is the only reason I see for remakes.

I can't wait to see this, I actually have a fair bit of confidence this will even be better than the Spacek version. CGM rules!

I have zero confidence in it being better, but I am hopeful that it will have better use of Carrie's powers. She was much more powerful in the book, but the SFX limitation of the original made them have to cut back on her abilities.

I think there's enough talent involved to ensure this will at the very least be a little better than your average "remake nobody quite asked for." Julianne Moore seems plenty scary and does look she could pass for Chloe Grace-Moretz's mother. Of course, it will take some convincing buying Chloe as an unpopular, unloved outcast, but I think she's got the intensity to pull it off.

Once again, I find myself agreeing with you, Jedd. Chlo√ę Grace Moretz is unfortunately the biggest problem for me in that she's so indelibly linked to Hit Girl that I may find myself having problems seeing her as the victim here. Of course, she's good enough that she might make me forget this.

Thanks Stratburst. She just seems like she'd be the most popular girl in school, as far away from a misfit as one can get.

I'm just glad we'll have a good horror movie to go see around Halloween that's also rated R. Kind of a nice break from all of the Paranormal Activity films every year.
