New TV spot for Oz The Great And Powerful with James Franco asks "Which Witch is Which?"

Jan. 15, 2013by: Paul Shirey

A new TV spot for Sam Raimi's OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL has arrived, which asks the question: "Which Witch is Which?" This seems to be the predominant question about the film and possibly the most intriguing one. I won't ruin it for you (or myself) but there is a lot of misdirection in the trailers that could lead one to believe many things about just who is the wicked witch. Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, or someone else entirely.

Thus far, the movie looks like a colorful, adventurous jaunt, replete with CGI and banter-ish dialogue. I think it could be a good time, but I'm not chomping at the bit just yet. I love me some Sam Raimi, but I'd rather see him move into DARKMAN territory again, or perhaps some more horror (ARMY OF DARKNESS sequel? Well, why not?). However, he's a talented guy and I think he'll squeeze in a good bit of his signature style into this, even if it's not so evident just yet.

Son of a Witch:

Here's the synopsis:

Disney's fantastical adventure "Oz The Great and Powerful," directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpotfame and fortune are his for the takingthat is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuityand even a bit of wizardryOscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, starring James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, and Michelle Williams is slated to leave Kansas on March 8, 2013.

Pretty obvious

Mila is the Wicked Witch of the West (green witch) and Rachel Weisz is the Wicked Witch of the East aka the sister who got killed by the house landing on her. Mila will probably fall in love with the Wizard and then become conflicted by her commitment to her sister and her new lover, that is until he most likely breaks her heart in favor of Glinda thus sending her to the dark side. Sounds a little generic, but it'll be interesting to see Kunis with the green make up.

easy answer

It's simple to figure this all out. Who would you rather crush with a house Rachel or MIla?

MIla's the Wicked Witch of the West. Rachel's the one under the house.

Oh Yeah

Definitely one to watch. Also, is it me, or is Rachel Weisz's character the wicked witch. That laugh at the end sounded like her. Possibly she becomes green at the end (she-hulk, I mean witch). Either way, sam raimi (with the exception of Spiderman 3) usually comes out with good stuff, so worth watching.

This movie just looks forgettable to me. Very much along the lines of Alice in Wonderland that came out a few years ago.

IMDB lists which witches are which. Rachel will be the witch of the East who gets flattened by the house. So Mila will be wearing the original witch make-up in the last shot.

I think Rachel Weisz is probably the evil witch, though they could pull a switcheroo with Mila Kunis as well. Rachel Weisz might just do "sexy evil" as well as Charlize Theron did in last year's Snow White and the Huntsman.

Not excited but interested

Everybody is complaining about this because looks as a sequel for Alice and I can see the point but it seems they
have a more solid movie, less annoying supporting characters and more story driven. Its only my feeling, of course, I can be wrong.

And yes, if Michelle Williams is in a movie, Im always in.
