New X-Men: Apocalypse set pic features Angel in an East German Fight Club

08.10.2015

Director Bryan Singer has been very open about sharing images from his latest X-MEN films via Instagram. Some have been enigmatic and others have showed virtually nothing, but every image has been open about what we will be getting in next year's X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Whether you like it or not, it does seem to put more confidence in the finished product if the filmmakers are willing to show us what is happening during the production process (ahem, Josh Trank).

In recent weeks, Singer has shared several new glimpses of the X-MEN: APOCALYPSE production including a look at a pair of beams shaped like an 'X' in what looks like the ruins of an action scene, a shot of some mutant costumes at an Area 51-like facility, and a shot of Ben Hardy as Warren Worthington III as he enters an underground fight club. You can see all three images below.

Warren Worthington (aka Angel) was last seen in Brett Ratner's X-MEN: THE LAST STAND where he was played by Ben Foster. In X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, Angel appears to be in East Berlin (remember, it is the 1980s) and seems to be taking out his angst by fighting in a steel cage. Is this by choice or against his will? It is unclear but it definitely could be a nice fight if Angel gets to use his powers.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE has the burden of not only following up the excellent X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST but also redeeming 20th Century Fox's Marvel properties following the bombing of FANTASTIC FOUR. Hopefully between DEADPOOL and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, we will get some quality mutant action.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE hits theaters on May 27, 2016.

A lot of the BTS stuff has been big destructive set peices. I LOVED all the future battles from DOFP that I could have watched a whole movie of just that... so I'm hoping more of the same is in this flick. Keep it up!

Bryan Singer knows how to market a movie. Most of the X-Men movies he directed (X-Men 2, Days of Future Past) were huge hits because he teased details all through the production process rather than have things leak out. Matthew Vaughn was a bit more secretive about things with First Class and the marketing as a result was terrible. Even when things get negative buzz (Quicksilver's costume or Apocalypse's costume) people are still 100% behind Singer based on his track records with X-Men

Really liked the casting of Foster for Angel in X3. Too bad Ratner screwed it up. Would have been interesting to see what he could have brought to the role under better direction.

I hope that big X sign is some kind of a hint that Apocalypse would be that big in some action scenes.
