Next for Wright?

I’ve heaped mounds of praise on filmmaker Edgar Wright, and for damn good reason: aside from the genuinely brilliant UK series SPACED, he’s delivered two modern genre classics with SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ (and a tiny slice of retro fun with his faux-trailer DON’T). So what’s he up to next?

It could be the long-discussed ANT-MAN movie, based on Marvel’s miniaturized hero. While discussing the UK release of the full GRINDHOUSE double-feature, Wright tells Empire: “I finished the script and I’m having a meeting about it next week, but it depends which comes first in the queue basically. I’ve been working on two at once, and I’m also about to start developing two more scripts, one of which is with Simon (Pegg). It could be SCOTT PILGRIM is next or it could be ANT-MAN, we shall see.

Wright has also been working on THEM, an adaptation of humorist Jon Ronson’s book “Them: Adventures with Extremists” that (as you can probably derive from the title) looks into the world of various fringe-dwelling theorists and activists. SCOTT PILGRIM is based on the wonderful and hilarious graphic novel series about a slacker who must defeat his new gal’s seven evil ex-boyfriends.

In his original comics incarnation, ANT-MAN was Dr. Henry Pym, a scientist who discovered particles that allowed him to alter his size (he was also Giant-Man). He also developed equipment that allowed him to communicate with ants.
