Nicolas Winding Refn drops directing The Equalizer with Denzel Washington

Recently it was announced that Nicolas Winding Refn would be directing an adaptation of the 1980s crime series, THE EQUALIZER. Now he’s not.

It seems that Sony was close to a deal with the director, but it did not work out. No reason has been given as to why. Denzel Washington is still set to play the leading role of Robert McCall, “a former covert operations officer who dedicated his life to helping people in trouble.” The film will just take the idea of the show, so don’t go looking to see any other similarities.

The studio still wants to get on the fast track to getting the film made. So in the meantime they will find a director to get ready to take on the adaptation in May with Washington.

Refn has GOD ONLY FORGIVES coming out one the 23rd. He’s also still attached to the remake of LOGAN’S RUN and the adaptation of graphic novel, THE BUTTON MAN.
