Ninja Turtles has been delayed, and here's why

TMNT animated lineup

After a flurry of first information and the loudly divided fan response, the people behind NINJA TURTLES have been quieter than a turtle in space.  That is to say, we haven't heard a thing as they do... whatever it is they do.

Now a bit of new information has come from co-creator Kevin Eastman, someone who has been involved with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics more or less since they were first created way back in 1984.  While the big news is that he is, for the first time, writing and drawing his own complete TMNT comic, in the process of being interviewed about this endeavor he shared some thoughts about what's going on with the upcoming movie version.   And it's good news.

"I talked to [producer] Scott Mednick yesterday, and he's seen the most recent 50 [script] pages and said it's as good as the last version -- they've really knocked it out of the park.  I've seen a chunk of it, and it's going to be a great movie, despite what everybody thinks." Which he is of course going to say, whether it's true or not.  But here's where the good news comes in - NINJA TURTLES was recently delayed out of December 2013 and into May 16th, 2014, and Eastman explained why: "Essentially they pushed it back for two reasons: One is the director, Jonathan Liebesman, wanted to make sure he could do the effects to the level he wants them at, and the fight scenes to the way they should be. Also, their release date is almost exactly on the 30th [TMNT] anniversary. May 5, 1984 is when the first Turtles comic came out. May 16, 2014, is almost exactly 30 years after. So basically it's an anniversary movie now."

Eastman is also working closely with the movie's pre-production, doing character designs and sketches and collaborating on a concept/idea level with everyone from the writers fo director Jonathan Liebesman.  And, of course, Eastman wants any fans out there to know he truly believes in what's happening with the movie.  As he so aptly put it: "... what they're doing with the movie is creating its own story, but it has to be true to the source material or we'll get fucking murdered. To be blunt."

Sexy TMNT costumes

My vote goes out to Michelangelo as being absolutely gorgeous.  What say you?

Extra Tidbit: My little brother's name is Rafael. No relation to the Ninja Turtle, as my father's not quite cool like that.

Still wish the team behind that last animated version could get a crack at a kick ass return of Shredder story. Last plot was just ok, but MAN was the animation and action awesome.

I really wish they would just come out and 100% verify if the turtles are mutated from alien ooze or if they are officially turtles from another planet cause honestly the another planet aspect would really annoy me.

Yeah...

Kevin Eastman sold his half of the rights to Peter Laird years ago. It was Laird keeping the property alive for the past decade, with the awesome 2003 cartoon and the fourth volume of the comics. Eastman's only jumped back on board since Nickelodeon snagged the rights away from Laird a couple years ago. It's actually kind of off-putting. Especially since everyone is ignoring it.

Aliens from space?

Like everyone else is wondering. Will they be aliens or mutated by alien ooze? It would be a complete slap in the face to have and "anniversary" movie with a complete different origin. I don't understand why comic book movies have to be so damn difficult. If they would look hard enough, 100% of the material is already there.

I was hoping for clarification on the alien aspect. I do like how he talked about being "fucking murdered." That makes it sound like there's at least some awareness at what a beloved property it is. I haven't checked out any TMNT stuff since the third movie almost twenty years ago. The villains have been as important to me as the Heroes in a Half-shell. Shredder or Krang, or even Baxter Stockman. Would be cool if they brought him into the mix. The anniversary thing is actually kinda cool, but

Geez I wouldn't mind coaxing those turtles outa their shells. You've heard of MILFS well say hello to the TILFS. There I said what everyone is thinking. I'd fuck those turtles. Hope the movie is cool too.

As hot as those girls are, please say I'm not the only one weirded out by the sexualisation of a group of humanoid turtles? Like who originally thought, lets take these 5 foot walking amphibians, and make them sexy?

great news...

lets hope it's a little darker, not as dark as the original comics but edgier than the first movie run.
