Blade Runner Deckard in black and whiteJust yesterday we shared with you the news that Harrison Ford was in very early talks to join Ridley Scott's new BLADE RUNNER, a thought which elicited a fair number of passionate reponse.  The thing was though, all of the information was particularly vague as to just what he would even be doing there (if you've seen the original film you'll understand why). Well, turns out the information was particularly vague due to the fact that nothing's actually happening, as I'm sure you feared and/or expected from the very start.

“It is absolutely patently false that there has been any discussion about Harrison Ford being in BLADE RUNNER,” said producer Alcon Entertainment producer Andrew Kosove. “To be clear, what we are trying to do with Ridley now is go through the painstaking process of trying to break the back of the story, figure out the direction we’re going to take the movie and find a writer to work on it. The casting of the movie could not be further from our minds at this moment.  What Ridley does in PROMETHEUS is a good template for what we’re trying to do. He created something that has some association to the original ALIEN, but lives on its own as a standalone movie.”

Then again, Kosove had to of course elect to end his comments with this piece of vagueness:  “In advance of knowing what we’re going to do, I supposed you could say yes, he could. But I think it is quite unlikely.”

Ridley Scott and company may be secretive about their films, but I strongly doubt that they'd outright lie.  Oh rumor mill... why must you churn out such fascinating stuff sometimes?

If it's a "painstaking process" to find a storytelling purpose for this film to exist, it probably shouldn't.

So I guess that means there's no artistic impetus behind this film, it's all about how much money can be made from the brand name. I stupidly got my hopes up that someone had written a great story.

well

here's hoping PROMETHEUS is good or its going to sort of kill any idea that this will succeed if you go by that producers musings.

YYYup!

The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long and Harrison Ford has burned very brightly. If they want to keep going with Blade Runner movies, bring in new acotrs and show the replicants side of the story in greater detail

Tidbit

Recently, the cameo of Spider Man in The Avengers had me pretty excited. But then it turned out to be false.

It was a weak rumor to begin with and one I kind of glazed over. How would that work anyway? I like the idea of revisiting the world of Blade Runner, but I'm not sure how Harrison Ford would even fit into that. I guess Prometheus will be a tell if something like this could work for Blade Runner.
