The first trailer for Nic Pizzolatto‘s sophomore season of True Detective featured no spoken words and a very different feel from it’s predecessor. If that wasn’t exactly your style, HBO has released a brand new trailer showing our leads speaking (for one), and in action. As with the first, the lead law enforcement officers (played by Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch) seem just as flawed as the people they’re attempting to take down. Vince Vaughn, in particular, looks like he’s returning to acting form as a career criminal.

I’m rather excited to see Rachel McAdams in something that isn’t so vanilla. Time will tell if this lives up to the story of the first season, but I have a feeling we’re all going to be very happy with the characters and performances of everyone involved here. It certainly doesn’t hurt that director Justin Lin (STAR TREK 3, FAST FIVE) directed the first two episodes.

The new season of True Detective will debut on June 21 at 9PM on HBO.
