No Pablo for Bardem

08.14.2008

It seems as though scheduling conflicts have nixed what I thought was one of the best casting choices of all time. Javier Bardem has unfortunately dropped out of the role of a lifetime-- Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar--in the upcoming biopic KILLING PABLO, because he and director Joe Carnahan "couldn't find a time when we could both work". That truly is a shame. After seeing Bardem's Oscar-winning work in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, we all know that this guy can do ruthless, chilling and murderous better than anybody. Let's hope the producers cast a new lead soon and get this exciting project up and running. The only question is who to cast? Any suggestions people?
Extra Tidbit: Antoine Fuqua and Oliver Stone have their own Pablo Escobar biopic in the works, simply titled ESCOBAR.

This is off topic but Javier Bardem would make a kickass Kratos for a God Of War movie, wouldn't he? Just look at the guy...he was born to play Kratos! He's got that very masculine facial structure...sheesh if I were a director I'd pick this dude in an instant...plus God Of War's my fave game of all time. Then again if Brett Ratner does it he'll just f*ck it up like everything else he's done so far.

Yo kub'01

The reason they went with "Killing Pablo" was because they're using the book by Mark Bowden. He's the one that wrote "Black Hawk Down" as well.
Now as far as the hack.........you got me there bud. Haven't seen any of his films, but have been told that I'm not missing anything.

Good!

I would rather see Bardeem use his talents in a film not directed by Joe Hack Carnahan or see him in a horribly titled film called Killing Pablo. What is this 1995?

That's okay

If you've seen more of his work than just what happened in 07, you'd agree he's more suited to play Pablo Neruda than Pablo Escobar.

Really upsetting.

In other news, i really dont think Bardem deserved Best Supporting for NCFOM. Casey Affleck is in my eyes, the true winner.
