No superheroes on TNT as cable network passes on DC Comics' Titans

01.07.2016

TNT is not interested in getting into the superhero game that has burst onto the television playing field in recent years.

Today, at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Kevin Reilly - president of TBS and TNT - announced the cable networks would be passing on the DC Comics superhero drama TITANS that had previously almost locked up a pilot order late last year.

We just decided it wasn’t quite where we wanted to go.

Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes had been attached to the project which stemmed from a 1964 issue of The Brave and the Bold, operating as a younger version of the Justice League, comprised of Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, and later Wonder Girl and Speedy.

The series was to center on Dick Grayson as he becomes Nightwing, with Raven, Starfire and a number of others joining the mix, but that's no longer happening. Is it possible someone else could pick up the concept, given the success shows like GOTHAM, SUPERGIRL, AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. and others have brought to their homes? Sure... It just isn't going to be where it was initially set up.

Who Cares

They are going to beat a dead horse. Over saturation, between TV and the Movies is going to sink Superheros eventually. Hollywood has no new ideas so they just jump on the bandwagon and ride it into the ground. It will find a home somewhere I'm sure, but I don't really care.

Whilst I'd be horrified if an eventual TV series went that way, am I the only one who finds Teen Titans Go! very funny with all the random nonsense they get up to? It seems so. :o)

I'm sure this will get picked up somewhere. Who knows, if Supergirl proves to be an overall successful season, CBS may pick it up as an additional show for their line up. Perhaps build out their own shared universe on CBS. I'd actually like that idea, given how Supergirl utilizes Superman on the show, the same could be done for Batman on Titans.

Well good

I don't watch Arrow. I mean, it's okay but it is not as much fun as The Flash or even Supergirl. There is speculation that next season (Season 5) could be the last season of Arrow and that it could be replaced by a Titans show with Roy Harper, Speedy, Kid Flash, etc. That would free Stephen Amell to pursue a movie career.

I suspect this series will eventually find a home somewhere.

Superhero TV shows are pretty much bulletproof right now.
